Yeah, I just had no net, so I couldn't upload it >.>

Journal of Shorast 'Opirian' Gatelight: 1st of Granite - 1052 - Early Spring

Spring has finally arrived, and with it the new year what awaits us I wonder.
Our mason has begun smoothing the walls of our rooms and our miners have dug out quite a bit of lignite and some additional tunnels. Our Mechanic has taken a liking to sleeping in the bed of others despite having his own room, since everyone seems to have this obsession I have locked the doors to the dorms in order to try and curb this behavior. The peasant that arrived is now a bone carver and a pretty decent one at that.

Also we have struck magnetite, it seems we have quite a lot of iron ore around us.

I got the message, starting asap. I plan to do entries as often as I remember, hopefully once a season at least.

I am sorry to say that I underestimated the library system where I live. I needed a book for a report due soon and was going to play while waiting for it to be returned and others in line getting it. It just got there yesterday instead of next week, so I shall be focusing on my report instead of the fort. since I have not been able to do much with it, just pass the save you gave me to the next in line. Sorry for not being able to participate, but school comes before play.

That's what cages and minecart shotguns are for!  We don't need to control them.  We just need to aim them.

2nd of Granite.

How do you start these things? Anyway hello! The esteemed Rhymedfountain speaking and I've got great news! Even we dirty digging dwellers can find happiness amongst each other! Although I worship Uthgur, the female god of jealousy, I don't mind.

But it's time to start some serious digging and trap-setting. Where are the studies and desks, the storage rooms with large industrious workplaces up above. A squalid situation is what it is! Everything needed is inside but how disorganized and so close to the entrance. Any invader could just walk on in. :-\ I'll finish a trapped entrance corridor with drawbridge and start an industry/storage a few levels deeper. How else can Mellonbread safely deliver my babies!

8th of Granite
 >:( >:( >:(
I'm starting to see why nothing gets done here!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

6th of Slate
Mellonbread and I are digging down and a cavern has been discovered. We walled it off and put a floor over the stairway but we need to go deeper.
Meanwhile, our friendly colleagues do what they do best! Come to Unitedgate, PARTY ALL THE TIME.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

8th of Slate
Well look at that. Migrants!
1 Administrator with all the craft skills as competent
1 Wood burner with novice Pike and diverse fighting skills
1 Planter with hammering skills
1 Suturer
1 Metalsmith. This guy is awesome. All metal skills at skilled and a talented knife user + assorted fighting skills!
1 Trapper
1 Animal Caretaker
2 puppies, a mule foal and a two (one to be slaughtered) kittens
1 Soap maker
2 Peasants. One with adequate fighting skills and novice Speardwarf. Time for a Militia commander! The other is just an adequate crutch-walker.
1 Gem setter (goes into the first squad with the Peasant! Let's pierce some cavern critters later)
1 Bone carver
1 Mechanic who likes to fish and is the third member of the spear-squad.
1 Mason and the fourth member of the Granite tool.
1 Cheese maker
1 Thresher
1 Dyer
1 Leatherworker
1 Weaponsmith (adequate)
1 Fish cleaner
Lots of new people; some useful but most of them will clearly be nothing more than participants in the ever-going rave party that is Unitedgate.

Meanwhile Gem cutter Zon Ringgranite has gone fey on us. Let's hope he knows what he's doing...
Wait, he's done already. I've barely begun digging out the new rooms and this guy finishes his perfect picture... Hey, it's us!

7th of Malachite 1052, Mid-summer

I've conscripted all those loafers into masonry because an entrance and depot covered in the sun isn't just the way I run things here. Our great former leader Opirian was doing nothing else but hauling rocks to garbage zones so I've given him a pick and said he could help build the tower.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

23rd of Malachite 1052
Even Mellonbread has fallen to the Party plague. I'll just order the rest to build a statue hall on top of the entrance for all the ravers. I'm happy, digging down below the first cavern and looking for the red gold!

14th of Galena 1052
A worker spotted a human caravan coming from the south. They're from The Windy nations. I ordered a bunch of crafts moved to the depot and I came upon this figurine of my better half.

She hates roaches...
Also, another fey mood. This time a crossbow maker.

26th of Galena

Note to my successors: Although I don't mind the weird quirks of most dwarfs, this one seems to be borderline traitor. A wooden bow? What was she thinking in Uthgurs name. Ah, she doesn't even worship her. She worships Itur Meadowsparkle, the male god of beauty. We've got a bishounen-loving elf!
