I find a curious amount of joy in observing history for a few hundred years, then jumping in as the leader of the largest empire, attempting to imprison all my vassals, assassinate the pope, that sort of thing, then pop back out and watch 15 different civil wars unfold.

The history books would be interesting in this world...

Is there actually any way out of elective succession? I'm looking at condition and all seem to be blocked by it.

Not that I have any condition met currently, but still.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Yeah, I'm looking at my world history books. Some highlights: Vikings conquer Ireland and Scotland, pre-Christian/German Prussia conquers Svithjod and is then conquered by Denmark, Byzantium takes back Italy, Serbia, and Croatia, the Maygar invasion is repulsed by Bulgaria so Hungary never existed, Bulgaria megablobs, Bulgarian splinter group forms Pannonia (De jure Hungary, but with 100% more Bulgar), Byzantines and Bulgars Bros 4 Lyfe, Khirgiz Khanate blobs all the way to Russia, and West Francia implements Elective Monarchy and is now ruled by the Dutch van Vlaanderen family.

Note: I was Byzantines.

So I beat the Germans back to a handful of holdings spread out between Germany and France, and they also have the southern 1/4 of England. Also the German king is Muslim, and very friendly with the Youmad empire.

I wonder what the implications of a Muslim Germanic British Isles would be...that's like a combination of all of America's enemies throughout history.

What's the Bay12 verdict on Conclave? Steam reviews are very, very mixed on it.

Like most newly implemented Paradox mechanics I think most of the dislike comes from a huge change in the way the game's played after getting used to pre-change mechanics. It's, again, like most new Paradox things, rough around the edges, but with some smoothing it'll be a fantastic addition.

I don't think there's a consensus anywhere. It does add a good bit but it can be quite wonky.

I'd say that's kind of telling in and off itself... most CK2 DLC over its long lifespan has been well received (or become well received shortly after the fix patch).

I actually just got it the other day and while it's certainly not a bad set of mechanics, it feels rather small for it's price. Maybe that's just because unlike most other DLCs it doesn't add anything in terms of nations, cultures, religions etc.

Yeah, its actually one of the few dlcs that doesnt impact the map, nor adds new cultures/religions to play.. so it seems less of a huge jump unlike some others... it may be overpriced at full price but the dlc itself adds some good content in areas that were lacking (councils / laws... even defensive pacts are interesting (before being patched they were pretty silly though)).
I dont regret buying it.. but i've spent many hundreds of hours in ck2.
I suppose i'd recommend it as something to pick up when it inevitably goes on sale in 3-6months.

The biggest issue I have with the Conclave DLC is the removal of the internal fighting law. They replaced it with that stupid realm peace mechanic.

It's not a big deal early on but it makes managing empires really stupid as everyone is at war forever and your border gore reaches sky-high levels. It makes no sense historically, logically, or even from a gameplay perspective (incoming: "Yeah but it makes playing as the vassals less boring!").

I downloaded a mod to put the law back in.

Oh, and yeah, compared to the other DLCs there really isn't much in here at all. The childhood changes are... meh. The council stuff is okay but really limited in scope. The laws don't really change. Threat and the like are all really just kinda... there. Alliances are kinda cool but again, that's a really tiny change. It's a pretty pathetic package all things considered.

I just won Holy War against nomads for a bunch of empty provinces. Are they good for anything? It seems I can't give them away, so I guess I'll have to develop them myself?

Yup. It's pretty cheap though AFAIK because there's no existing holdings in it.

Yeah, it's about half of the sum I'm used to. So I guess holdings here were come. Maybe this will even be my merchant republic.

I actually really really like Conclave. Gave a reason to not just stick your Marshal with 25 Martial in the position if he's -100 with you.

Alliance mechanics are an improvement, imo.

Childhood stuff is also cool.

As said, no new way to play the game, as such, but because basically everyone is affected by the new changes, no matter that culture or religion, I think it's really cool. :)
