Yeah, sounds good to me. I never really played Byzantines, so I'll finally get some use out of those castrate options.

Starting as African in Old Gods was pretty fun in my experience.  But for multiplayer my group has mainly played Scandinavia/Britain at Old Gods.  It's a good time to go Viking.

Clearly the Abbasids are the best choice here. Not as Sunnis though, oh no. Clearly everyone should be Zunists and take over the empire in the name of the Sun. It's the only intelligent thing to do after all.

Anything challenging is fine. I haven't really done anything outside of Britain or France, but I think I'm good enough at it to be alright elsewhere...

Pretty sure it uses the host's DLC in mechanical respects, but I'm not sure if you can play Islamic without owning SoI or Pagans without owning Old Gods etc.

Which would make it pretty similar to the base game, where the base game is upgraded but you can't play as certain groups.  I'm almost positive that the host's Legacy of Rome lets you use retinues though.
