Nevermind, beta patch solved the problem.
Now, only problem is that I'm "noculture", and have horrid, horrid tech (exporting four centuries early is probably the readon).
Also I have generic, boring ideas, chinese tech group, and awkwardly placed terra incognita (namely, the whole friggin mediterranean, what the hell?)

The messed up TI is because the starting TI is based on your tech group, so Chinese tech group gets to see all of Asia and nothin else.

Partially. With my exported Mongol game, I was Western tech group but had visibility to Asia.

I think I'll quickly change my capital to Constantinople before exporting again, see if that solve my problem.

So, just wanted to drop in and report on an experiment of mine.

I minmaxed a ruler for maximum health via the ruler designer, ended up with something like 30-40 health. The ruler was still kicking at the ripe old age of 120 years before I got bored with the experiment to see how old I can get a character. The rest of his stats were pretty mediocre though. For those curious, he was indian due to the bonus +1 health they can get. For some reason I thought it was a good idea to make him a Jain, so I couldn't really do much. Mostly dicked around with my vassals. And assassinated my third wife and three lovers when I got too old because having sexy funtimes with them put me at risk of dying from a heart attack. His was a very boring, very long, reign.

Also, while the rest of his stats were pretty mediocre, my vassals worshiped the ground he walked on due to sweet, sweet Long Reign bonuses.

You know what I would greatly appreciate? Political/character DLC.

Just two things off the top of my head that could go into it: Creating custom heresies, and political manuevering event-chains when you create a new title. Especially if you're creating one higher level than you.

For the custom heresies, being able to create a heresy with the flavouring and mechanics you desire would be enjoyable. Especially with trade-offs, like do you want female bishops or do you want celibate priests? Or what kind of head-of-religion you would have, pope vs patriarch vs you are the head a la Anglicans vs no head at all. Or the holy sites of your new faith (balanced, of course, that they can't all be in the exact same 5-province location, or else you would just turn your capital province into a holy site stronghold). Things like that, would be nice! It's not historical by any means, but if you can only do it with a high-learning/high-diplomacy/specific-traits character (like insane, or zealous, or etc) and constrain the choices based off your character (a greedy king isn't going to say "God wants us to give our worldly possessions to the poor and the needy!), it could work.

The other is the fact that right now, as a count with enough money, you can just go "poof I'm a duke" as a vassal and no one raises a tiff. Even as an independent it's a little weird, but especially with a king over you. So instead of that, as a count vassal clicking on the "Create dukedom" button would start up an event chain, coloured by your traits, his traits, and your relations with the king, that would allow you to maneuver yourself into his graces to allow you to raise yourself, instead of costing you money right-off. Like, if you're a diligent, patient count, with a brother-in-law King and 100 relations, and he's a kind, content king, it's almost 100%. Whereas as a -100 relations, slothful, wrathful count with a proud, ambitious king, you would need to pay a lot more and work him a lot more to allow you to become a duke. Replace King with Pope and the various aspects for independent counts and dukes, especially going to the Kingdom level.

Right now, the game is a little... Lack-luster in character. Sure, various characters act a liiiittle different, but they don't really -matter- the way your finances and army does. Making sure that as a count looking to expand, you need to have a good relationship with your lord, or face having to maneuver yourself into his graces would feel more... historical. As it is, afaik no person in history elevated themselves to Duke or King without their lord or the Popes grace. That must be sacrificed to gameplay, of course, it would be terrible if you couldn't create your rightful dukedom after warring and intriguing for it, but some characterization to go with it would be welcome, at least to me.

Yeah, that! Also, another thing I'd like to see in: Dowries. Paying cash to get your daughter to marry someone that would otherwise desire a better alliance. Or alternatively, marrying the ugly, dumb daughter of the Doge of Venice to fund your war.

Dowries (well correction, republics hafta pay people to marry noble women, might not be the exact same thing your talking about.) are already in place for republics, so you could marry your daughter to the doge of Venice to fund your war.

I think the republic has to request the marriage in order for you to get the gold.

Yeah, if you're a republic you can do that, but the AI republic won't (it will marry a courtier), so it's in the game, but not used by anyone else than the player.

Not true...as an italian noble and especially as the italian king/prince level I got plenty of offers...someone of them in the 400+ gold range (in one game). Though I noticed it seemed more common as a lower level noble...likely due to the more reasonable price.

I'm doing an Ironman run as Jorvik, and I'm not doing so bad. A few things of note:

I'm so glad they added that in, it was so dumb before how you could take Rome and the Catholics just wouldn't care.

From what I've seen, the AI republics will generally marry for the alliance.  Hence why mostly italian nobles get the marriage requests...although it's not uncommon for the Holy Roman Emperor to have a Venician bride...

So I decided to paint the map purple. And when I say "paint the map", I mean, "conquer every damn title". I started as a count, worked my way up... But I'd really like to have access to crusades to speed things up somewhat.

So my question is: once I've mended the schism, if I convert to catholicism and let it take over until it replace orthodoxy as the main religion, will I have access to crusades?

Also, is there any good way to get courtiers of other religions to press claim on muslims?
