One thing I like doing is if I suspect my ruler will die soon (or better yet, have a depressed one I can off at any time) then I will have him go FUUUUUUUULLLLLL tyrant until its time.

Basically, break as many truces as you want and gather up a shitload of land, imprison EVERYBODY, then die and have your heir release all the imprisoned people for relationship bonuses with all of them, and all those "truce breaker" things are immediately forgiven because you aren't your father/mother.

As I said, best with a depressed ruler.
Actually that might be the best trait in the game when you think about it.

You need piety for imprisoning and such, and prestige for creating and usurping titles, so you need to have a stock. I think they also have some other effects but I can't quite remember what they are right now.

You also get +1 relation with vassal per 100 prestige up to 2000 prestige (+20). But then loosing prestige ain't that bad, because it's so easy to gain.

Yeah, but you don't inherit most prestige/piety (you get a small fraction, I think, but not much, as most of my rulers have gone from four digits to two upon death and new ruler).

You don't inherit any IIRC. What you get is the built-up prestige and piety your heir got while he wasn't under your control. This is why it's normally wise to give them some lands beforehand so they can build up a decent amount.

Actually no, the loading screens do mention that they get a fraction of the parent's (parents'?) prestige, but it seems like 1%-ish.

You inherit your parents' dynasty prestige. Not their actual prestige.

Children get a small amount (1/40 iirc) of each parent's dynasty's prestige when they are born, which is increased by people in the dynasty holding titles. It has nothing to do with how much prestige either parent had themselves.
