Does anyone else wish they had the time to mod a new map and new nations? Being constrained by real life is such a pain. Sure the HRE is historical but it takes away a lot of options and stomps so much stuff. And there really isn't as much possible boat fun as there could be. Even if we can't get a non-historical map even a world wide historical one would be great. Although I suppose there may be memory problems from so many extra characters.

I think one of the main problems with modding CK2 is that many things have already been done.

That said, I do wish I had the time to learn to mod this.

Its true a lot has been done. But very rarely does it extend to an all new map of a good size. I do know some people added large parts of the real world.

Started a game today. As said on this thread, got an irish count. The game says very difficult, but I feel better trying this than the Holy Byzantine Empire of Doomstacks on a first game.

My character is a grumpy old man, good tactician but craven, greedy (OF COURSE. Every single irish character is a scrooge. no kidding: all irish character sheet I bothered reading so far feature this trait.), and some other things. Not really a scholar (4...), but a good warrior and stuff.
My son is a damned slacker, but all this time avoiding work kind of ended up being useful (paranoia, sloth, perfect shadow ninja thing... 14 intrigue. MASTER SPY. And greedy, yes.)
As I am a tad old for this stuff, I decided to skip marriage and marry him instead. His wife comes from a nearby county. Greed, paranoia, and this ne'er do well lost my favourite falcon almost right away! Damn girl. At least she has a brain for two (16 diplomacy. I had another good at intrigue, but that would be redundant)
They had a kid recently. Snot-nosed brat.

(my character hates all of his family, but thankfully it's not reciprocate. I imagine him being a stereotypical grumpy old geezer :P)

I started to invade my souther neighbour. Fabricate claim, raise the levies, try to declare war, fumbles, disband, declare war, raise the levies again, march on the county, find a viking raid party sieging the place, put up the camp, wait for them to wander off, finish the siege, occupy the county.
Find myself without enough troops to properly siege the city and church, disband levies, wait. Periodically slaughter the 4-6 guys wandering off the protection of the walls to raise the warscore. Repel a viking raiding party like a boss. Wait for the other grumpy, greedy old geezer to surrender (the stubborn bastard hasn't yet. He's brave, him.)
Make significant technological progress, steal other, long after a castle when seeing I have a level in heavy infantry.

Yeah, didn't achieve much ^^

You probably did not install properly or if you did the install correctly then the files may have been damaged.

Make sure you installed it on the paradox folder in your documents, not on the ck2 install directory.

The difficulty bar could be easily ignored, really. A lot of stuff depends on how well you play and luck.

That sounds like a Socratic question. :P
Anyway, yes, yes it can.

So, if I form an empire as the most serene doge, what will I become ? Most most serene doge ?

If you form an Empire as a most serene doge, nothing will change- Most Serene is already the imperial title (just "serene" is king level).

I'm banging my head against the wall at the moment. I modded a 'shattered world' scenario by deleting all characters, stripping all ducal/kingdom/imperial titles of ownership, and creating a single character to play as in ownership of the county of Jerusalem. Because I thought it'd be interesting, I modded in (pretty much just the name of) Judaism, made it the religion of the province of Jerusalem and of my character, and lastly I separated the Kingdom of Jerusalem into the Kingdoms of Ascalon and Yisrael.

Everything worked brilliantly. It loads up just fine, exactly as expected. I found it odd that I wasn't receiving any taxes, even after revoking all the baron-level titles from my county, but that's not even the worst thing; my armies won't move. At all. They'll do the animation, display an arrow, and give me a date of arrival, but won't actually move. The arrow doesn't even 'fill up'. Months past the expected date of arrival, they're still walking in place. I've loaded and reloaded it from the very beginning several times. I even cheated myself 5000 gold, and bought mercenaries. They ended up being raised in Acre (guess it's because Jerusalem is landlocked?), but even they had the same issue. Yet AI armies aren't having this issue. I've declared war and seen AI armies walk around wherever they go, even coming into my province and having a battle with my army as normal.

I just can't think what file I altered that made the game go so haywire. I've triple-checked every one of them to make sure they're formatted correctly. Vanilla works just fine, and so did the mod (when all I'd done was strip ownership of Ducal/Kingdom/Imperial titles) before I stripped out the characters and made my other changes. If anyone has some insight, it'd be greatly appreciated. I've run out of ideas at this point. (I'm running patch 1.06, by the way if that makes any difference; every patch after that introduces graphical errors that make the game unplayable on my ancient, piece of garbage rig)

TL;DR My armies won't move in my own mod, AI armies can, can't figure out what's causing the issue, sad-face. :(

Not exactly related to the issue, but your modification (stripping all titles greater than county) sounds potentially fun.  Did the HRE historically invade my holdings in Sweden?  I think not.  Stupid HRE.

It's relatively easy to do, just a little monotonous time-consuming file editing. It's what Kailivin (minor youtuber I watch occasionally) recently did for his 'Shattered Europe' LP. Some interesting things can happen when there's nothing but one-province counts, though it does lend to gamey-ness; Subjugation and Holy War cassus belli if you get them are your best friends early on, and revoking your vassal baronies at the start is usually necessary to overwhelm your nearby targetsneighbors until you manage to scrap together high level titles to begin pressing de jure claims.

CK2+ comes with an optional shattered world mod, that you can set to have or not have duchy level titles.  It also comes with a gender equality mod, albeit one that doesn't really work for all religions.

I accidentally ran the shattered world mod without the base CK2+ mod.  It worked, but there was this random impassible area next to Rome that was the size of a large province and shown as "Pagan" under the religion mapmode despite being wasteland in all other respects.  But otherwise it worked.  This was before The Old Gods was released.

I'd tried that before, it didn't work for me. However, luckily enough, when checking to see if I could update my game and get it to play, it worked this time! So I now have a nearly fully updated CK2 (stopped at 1.01 so I could play Elder Kings), with all DLC working just fine. More than makes up for my mod frustrating me.
