HOCOM: Pope Unknown.
HOCOM: Papal Defense.

Sigged straight away.

I think becoming the master of a holy order is a random event, just as joining the Varangian Guard.

About steam trading cards: they are a life saver during the summer sale. Play a week of hl2, tf2, l4d2, ck2, portal and other steam trading cards games, wait for sale, put cards on market, profit. That's how I got Killing Floor when it was 3 euros.

Nah, you can't become the master of a holy order. Anyway, as King of Jerusalem, Hospitaliers and Templars start as your vassals. I gave them duchy titles, they made it primary, and died, so the liege inherits (if they die with the Holy Order as primary, another guy of the Order inherits). Eventually if you were emperor, you could gave them a kingdom, which would automatically be primary.
I discovered that with the Hospitaliers, and then I did the same with Templars.

Oh dear lord. The dilemma of whether to not support the morally rotten pseudo-fraud scheme or to MONIES. I find myself in it.
Wait, so can you get real monies from this?

The ones I've got for playing CK2 (don't even know if you have to actively do anything or it's enough to keep the game running) have all sold for around €0.30 each. So a moron pays me for what is really a postcard sized jpeg and steam bills the buyer an additional 10% or so in moron fees. And yeah, the money goes into the steam wallet so it inevitably ends up in Valve's coffers. It's a hilariously dirty scheme.

Yeah I love that it shows the price in the buyer's currency.  My friend and I both received rubles for some of our cards.
Speaking of, I'm finally going to try actually playing this game instead of just reading the thread.  The cards may be a scam, but at least it's getting me to try some games I'd put away  :)

That is... a very fancy way to encourage people to stay on Steam.  Devious.  My CKII is all on gamersgate.

I feel like these things only work if most people hoard the cards. A lot of people will simply be selling because they don't care. Like me.

I think most people won't care, and won't touch the cards, not selling nor buying.

Playing a Doux in the Eastern Roman Empire, the empire was a bit unstable and I wasn't helping of course. I was browsing through factions available and saw some lady without a dynasty who apparently had a claim on the ERE, wanting to get rid of the current dynasties long reign of Rome I backed her and said "lets go" war went, apparrently I was given the chance to send out a call to war to every single vassal of the ERE to join me in war? I'm not sure but I did it, and all but like a dozen of the ERE's vassals joined me.

30 seconds later we captured the emperor, forced a peace and put this apparently lowborn chick on the throne.

Except she wasn't that lowborn, she was actually an non-legitimized bastard of the Ruling dynasty I was trying to get rid of, good enough really, new dynasty none the less. However then I noticed something she was married to someone of my Dynasty and had a son of my Dynasty.

This is where I kinda lost my bloody mind.

I had just accidentally put someone of my dynasty next in line for the throne of the Eastern Roman Empire.

I'm finally actually playing this!
Chose Earl Diarmait of Leinster in 1067.  What a strange situation.  I have two sons, one of which is Earl of Dublin and also my heir.  I assume this means that when I die (I'm 72) he'll be earl of both counties, and his brother will continue to have jack squat.

Also I seem to have all three of former King Harold's non-infant sons in my court!  I'm sure that would be useful if I ever intended to invade England.

Speaking of, this Council Screen seems important... Is there a reason my councilmen shouldn't be constantly on missions?

If they are on missions, they can't be leading armies, so sometimes you will have them not be on a mission for that reason.  If you are small enough that you don't have a huge character pool that can be a concern.  Keep in mind that you can't cancel their missions (except by removing them from the council) for a while after you start them, so that can be a factor if you are planning a war soon.  Usually though you do want your council to be out and about.

Yeah, with the excepion of needing them to command your armies (and usually only your marshal is a good enough soldier to really need helping you in wars), you always want your councilmen acive on missions.

I will also note, that you usally want your chancellor to be on the "Fabricate a Claim" mission, as it is a gaurenteed but slow) way to get casus belli's to expand your realm.
