So I made a little mod to strip all Kingdom, Empire, and Dukedom titles from having a holder at the 1066 start date, so the world begins with nothing but counts... though apparently, some counts have a few provinces under their belt, and they end up eating things around them rather quickly from the get go (Croatia forms rather quickly, for instance). I started as a custom ruler in Korinthos, formed several duchies in a rather extensive array of forged claims and de jure ducal claims, and holy war'd my way into control of sicily and calabria.

I've gone on to form the Kingdom of Greece with my heir, and have expanded rather rapidly through vassalization and holy war'ing greek territory from muslim Anatolia (Mirdasids). My grandson is the King of Croatia, who has been a staunch ally in my wars. The Kingdom of Taurica formed from the former duchy of Adrianapolis apparently having holy war'd through the pagan nations in that area, and I'm slowly (every ten years) claiming de jure territory from their Greek provinces.

I can currently call up about 17K in levies, with only the Kingdom of Ruthenia truly able to compete with me in terms of numbers. So I just keep beating up the Mirdasids in Holy Wars. I'm assuming that I'm correct in thinking that dishonoring my truces with them isn't a huge deal, since I don't much care what muslim rulers think of me, so I'm just tearing through their anatolian territory with gusto, waiting until my vassals stop getting pissed at me for having 'raised levies too long' before declaring yet another holy way for greek-culture territory. They've been rather effective at spreading islam though, so I'm going to have to spend some time trying to convert them back to Orthodox once I claim those provinces.

At the moment though, I'm dealing with an annoying situation. Somehow, a Tengri Vlach vassal of mine rose to power in the republic of Sicily, and since he was going to rebel anyway (103% o.O), I attempted to revoke his title to incite war and get it over with. So now I'm in a civil war with him. I've squashed his meager levies with my demesne levies and two companies of mercenaries (because I can afford it, and I'm still trying to lose the 'vassal levies raised too long' modifiers), and am now sieging my way through his territories. It's strange though, because he randomly has a city apiece in two separate counties on the Greek mainland. I'm guessing it's some funkiness from inheriting titles after I had probably granted the duchy title to whatever vassal had the highest stewardship and that vassal was a mayor. What's making it annoying is that he has obscene amounts of garrison troops (1.5k in one of his castles) and fort level (6.0 in that same castle) compared to what I've dealt with so far, so I can't just roflstomp through sieges like I have been. So it's taking large amounts of time to end this rebellion, even though there's literally no way for him to win.

Oh, and then my game randomly CTDs for the first time ever. I know my laptop is crap, and it runs terribly, but first time I've had this issue. So now I have to go through another 11 months in-game of this crap I've already had to deal with. And still hardly get anywhere. And hope that a CTD doesn't happen again.

Damn foreign pagans. Ruining all my fun. :P

There's a mod that makes every single county held by a single person, so you don't have blocks of counties already under one person at gamestart.

Shattered World for CK2+, right? I can't get CK2+ to run, sadly, and Shattered World wouldn't work by itself. My laptop is a piece of crap. I can't even patch past a certain point because apparently, once it hits a certain patch, it suddenly decides I don't have enough graphics memory to run the game, and I have really terrible display issues that make the game unplayable. And I could manually go in and make it where there were no blocks of counties, but I'm fine with it the way it is, honestly. Gives a few 'easy mode' starts, and more challenging starts near those same places. It's just my own personal mod; I tend to like to mod in things like my own heresies and titles anyway :P

The man with claim problems: spend all your money and wives on inviting the best diplomat in the realm to your court. I got a spymaster with 21 intrigue, that gives me 20-30% chance of everything.
I'm confused. Are you telling me to get a chancellor or a spymaster?

So, there have been a series of tragic accidents in the Kingdom of Denmark, killing everyone in line for the throne up to his third daughter, the Queen of Norway.  Which meant that since the King died, and his infant son born at the last minute was mysteriously smothered in his sleep, the Kingdom of Denmark is set to be inherited by the young Prince of Norway.

As it turns out, if you abduct a woman and force her to become your concubine, and you are also a terrible and unattractive husband, you should not make said woman your spymaster.

You get abduction penalty on top of the heathen penalty.

So I decided to do a quick run as the chief of Nantes.
30 years later my first son has just inherited (my realm including only Brittany and Mortain), who is Breton Sunni. Two brothers are Norse Catholic and two are Norse Norse. One province is Breton Sunni, one Norse Norse, and the rest Breton Catholic. Have a 1 province demesne. I'm not sure where to go from here, I'm thinking fealty to the Umayyads or something. The Breton was intended to allow me to form the kingdom of Brittany but then I realized I need 200 piety and 2 duchy titles.

... Uh... How? Does the count of Nantes start as a Norse or is this a mod?

Yeah, Ragnarr Hafsteinn. Starts with a decent invasion force, perfect for prepared invasions of anywhere.

-86 Opinion of liege if I remember correctly.  So yeah.  Assigning her as spymaster was probably the second worst decision I have ever seen the AI make, ignoring the basic level incompetence at leading armies and such.

Speaking of AI decisions, I've witnessed a very interesting one : my kinsman and part-time ally the Emperor of Byzantium, out of nowhere, suggested a matrilineal marriage between one of my distant grand-nieces or something and a 26-intrigue random guy from his court. "the hell ??", I thought . So I checked the guy out and he was a claimant to the byzantium throne. Oh, ok, I thought, clever.

I took him in and made him my spymaster (which admittedly wasn't very smart; "my lord, our powerful neighbour who keep declaring war on us every other year and desire all your kingships sends over an extremly sneaky and plotty guy, what should we do with him ? -hum, well, let's make him spymaster !), I didn't see how harm could directly come to me.

Harm didn't come to me indeed, but as soon as he had a son, an epidemic of early natural death raged in the distant branch of the family his wife came from, and said son found himself to inherit the kingdom of turkestan which I had conquered and lost to gavelkind a couple generations earlier.

Still my best spymaster to date.

Well I'm not too sure about it but I suspect a perfectly stealthy murder will appear as "natural death". Either that or there's been some weird coincidences  :P

Heh, just had a great event chain where my regent wanted to kill me. He tried 5 different ways, until finally just doing it himself with a knife.

Nope, murder is always a suspicious accident. Natural death is... unknown weird game causes that everyone complains about and Paradox doesn't seem to know how to fix.
