Well, in my case my heir was my grandson. My son changed his culture by choosing who educated him. I guess I should have taken the grandson to educate him at home, but I'm not sure his mom (The Byzantine Empress) would have agreed.

Pretty trivial to remain a single culture in most succession laws. First of all you should always educate your own children to make sure they have great traits. When they turn 15 or so send them off to a guardian of your culture and religion who specialises in the particular career trait you want your child to have. You can do the same in elective with your chosen heir or heir's child. Most vassals will agree to you educating their heirs if your have good traits, career trait and stats. Buttering them with gold is also highly effective.
Seniority is the only succession law where you have a decent chance of someone of a different culture inheriting. To combat this make sure you only land adults of your culture in provinces that have a different culture to your own. Be aware of which areas have "cultural boiling pot events" such as England and be prepared for those cultural shifts.

I guess my mistake was marrying my son to a foreign ruler without giving him land first.

In my Wallach game, I have a Bulgarian province still (really I only have like, 2 Vlach provinces. ... In the entire map. Shit's fun.) and it's special building is still available.

Maybe it's not because it's bulgarian but instead my capital?

Anyway, France is Moslem. Just saying. Almost entire converted.

The Kingdoms in France are independant, Catholic, and next to each other in the Netherlands.

I soooo want to convert this game to EU3/4

It depends on the culture of the ruler I think.

I tend to avoid building cultural buildings to avoid losing them due to culture changes.

So, still in my Russian game, the Golden Horde came. The swept through Perm, killed my peeps. Then, while the Mongol were waiting for our truce to end (Just noticed they only last one year with Mongols... Novel would be content), they decided to attack the Ilkhanate to keep busy I guess. When the southern Khagan brought his hordes north to fight off the Golden Horde, I witnessed the biggest battle I've ever seen in CKII: 73,809 Ilkhanate warriors went fourth to try to kick 109,229 Golden Warrior from Khwarazim. At the end of the day, 35,621 Ilkhanate retreated, leaving 66,765 Golden Warrior left standing. Total death toll for the battle is 80,652.

I may not have been part of it, but I won that battle nonetheless.

EDIT: The Gods are smiling on me, a new Ilkhanate horde when crashing on the remain of the Golden Horde, leaving around 75,000 deaths total. Look like I'll be able to counter-attack sooner than I though.

Muslim succession. Two brother hated my guts. Tried to imprison the first one, failed, but succeeded after all when I burned half his land.

Tried to imprison the second one, failed again, and won the resulting war. After he surrendered, I somehow let go of the first brother. Luckily my attempt at imprisoning actually worked but it still annoyed me. Why should I let my brother go because another brother lost a war? I did notice that having that brother captive increased my warscore by 5%, which never happened before, so I just assume this is an Old Gods bug.

Sounds like a feature... not working as intended. Captured family members give warscore (+50% if it's the heir!), but it doesn't really make in that scenario or inter-family conflict overall. He probably got released because the game doesn't want you to have an automatic warscore bonus in case of a new war. Or it was a random bug.

Luckily I can re-imprison them with the console.

Or it considered that since the war was over, you should release the prisoners.

Also, you can destroy and recreate the Kingdom of Jerusalem to farm Prestige and Piety. So it is possible to beat the strongest dinasty of the scoreboard in a single generation (or a single hour) if you have enough funds. :p

Why the hell would I want to release my prisoners though? The entire point of trying to imprison them is to have them in prison :P.

Well, it's normal to release POW after the war is finished.

If your brother was your other brother's heir he would have been released at the end of the conflict.

I really wish you could could do whatever you wanted to vassals who act with extreme dishonour. I shouldn't get tyrant points for executing a lowly count who assassinated the heir of the empire!

He wasn't a POW. He was my vassal who was in my dungeon to stop him from trying to take my throne.

Yeah, that's the bug.

My character keep getting branded as "The Cruel" if I don't grab the "Great" thing first. Why so, I don't do that many bad things...
