That might be part of it. I feel like I've looted thousands with my current King and he never got the trait. But I didn't always fully loot the settlement, mostly because I raided higher value areas like the Byzantium empire.

I got it once and on my first raid-siege (I didn't even know you didn't have to siege until my third pagan game).

I could be wrong, but there might be something broken with Holy Orders and mercenary bands. In my game I seem to have at least one of the Catholic holy orders stuck in place. I know this is the case because the Knights Templar army is stuck in the county of Acre after I granted them a barony in the Kingdom of Jerusalem when they requested it after a successful Catholic crusade. I'm not sure if it's intended for them to be unhireable like that, or if since the last patch if they are supposed to stay in the Kingdom of Jerusalem and follow the army of the King around or something. I recall them assisting me in the past without hiring them, though I can't remember if it was before or after the Crusade was successful.

Some of the mercenary bands might be that way too, or they might just be employed at this time, I'm not sure.

Also, I had the most successful Boleslaw the Bold to date in this game. He was made King of Jerusalem by the Pope after sacking Tunis and Bizerte to distract the Fatimids while the HRE consolidated in the area around Jerusalem during the Crusade and and fought off the Fatimid's counter attack thanks to the HRE offering it's support in defense. He was one or two counties away from forming the Wendish Empire, which was formed by his successor. He used the gold the Caliphate paid to end their unsuccessful war to build a university and some castle holdings in Jerusalem. He died at age 99 after being maimed in battle while leading troops at the age of 97.

I think you can hire them if they're not busy at the moment fighting o of their own war.

As for me, I'm kind of Georgia, my son is King of a bloated Rus and my Grandson is King of Cuman. Can't wait to die. :)

I created the Kingdom of Wallachia as the count of Severin with a custom ruler. Took me a few more generations than it normally does, but I accidentally got a Basarab on the Imperial throne. If they stay on it, I'm hoping Greece turns Vlach. I also hold two duchies of Hungary, and created two republic's on the black sea that I'll let compete for a few years and then destroy the weaker.

I just hope I don't inherit the empire, I'm already culturally split, I'd have no idea how to control the Greeks, Armenians, Hungarians, and Bulgarians!

I have no idea what I'm going to do next x3

Aaaaaaaand my idiot of a son lost Rus. Dang, should have died earlier.

also, how do you create a republic? Is giving a county to the mayor of said county enough? I'd love an orthodox trade republic to compete with thoe pesky Genoan.

The mayor needs to have a coastal capital and a duchy. Pretty easy to do, just get yourself a coastal county, give the local mayor the county and form whatever duchy he is in and give it to him(or you might need to wrangle it from someone else and give to him). You should then get messages that a new trade republic has formed.

I just had the stupidest idea ever. Mercenaries and holy orders count as duchy level titles, therefore you might be able to start a trade republic by giving a mayor the knights templar(for example, and if you manage to inherit them somehow, which is quite rare).

You can offer help (in a war) everyone who has the same religion group as you.

Also, make sure that the de jure capital of the duchy you give to the grand mayor is coastal or he'll change it and cease being a (playable and trading) republic.

I think you're right, I remember reading on the paradox forums that other people were having issues with the holy orders as well.

How do you see if an independant Barony level personage is at war? I've probably seen it before but I don't recall. If the Holy Order is stuck in a war, that would explain why he has his force mustered in Acre, but since it's a Barony and not a County it's not in the County view thing where I normally check war status.

Also, an addition that would be very helpful should the devs read this is having parentage be visible in the arrange marriage screen. If you are seeking an unlanded marriage partner to marry your relatives to in order to keep them in your court to create a large pool of nobles for later conquered territories it's not possible to see which courtiers would not cause a large minus to prestige for the marriage. Often you have to choose several courtiers before you find a relative of a King or better, as they still show as courtiers unless they are Princes (son of Rulers I think). If there were a toggle to filter out people who would cause a loss of prestige that would be good. It would be even better if that was combined with info on what the game considers them a relative or offspring of (relative of count, of duke, of king, of emperor, of bishop, of grand mayor etc) inside the arrange marriage screen.

Iconoclasm has replaced Orthodoxy in my game o.O
There half a dozen Orthodox countries left, but that's it. All rulers are Iconoclast.

Also, the Queen of Asturias, Castille, and Galicia married the king of West Francia and Aquaitaine... I'm' glad I'm on the other side of the world as only Castille is still Gavelkind of those 5 titles.

There does seem to be something strange about Iconoclasm in Byzantium. I've had a few games where the majority or even all of the empire convert. Haven't seen it with any other heresies. Then again could just be luck.
