Well that was close....... I was only a few provinces away from created the empire of Britannia, when one of my sons died, and the other was celibate and never had kids. As the celibate got older and in worse health, I used the fortune I amassed to massacre who knows how many potential heirs until my sister became the next one. I created the empire a few months after she became Queen.

So with the old gods expansion you can start as Basil the Macedonian and marry one of the daughters of Charles the Bald, who start with weak claims on all the Carolignian kingdoms except for Lotharingia (which is german for "gonna-disappear-land").  At some point your wife should inherit a county claim which you can press, making it possible to vassalize her if you fabricate claims on an adjoining territory.  The Karlings tend to go through a fair number of claim wars and regencies even without assassinations so you will probably get a chance to push all of your wifes claims.  Restoring the empire of Trajan in a single generation is probably not doable but in one generation you can unite the realms of Charlemagne and Justinian.  Makes for a pretty fun playthrough.

Nah, she is old and childless now (who do you think I massacred?)

I'm just mad that I couldn't make women inherit equally.... Isn't England suppose to have a history of that???

Depend on your culture. If you're English, I'm pretty sure you can change to absolute cognatic.

Seems to only be basque. I heard that you could change your heir's culture by having him be taught by a person of that culture, right? I'll have to remember that for next time.

It's true. If the guardian has certain traits (I know Diligent is one of them) the chance to change culture is higher.

If you're anything like me, you'll likely get a bunch of wrong-culture, maybe wrong-religion heirs because you can't be bothered to check anything except the highest stat and traits of guardians. Atleast in that regard they usually turn out alright.

I do check religion. Generally, anyone at my court with the wrong religion is some women I married for the genius trait, and I convert them. Don't give a fuck about culture though.

Yeah some silly reason, only Basque can get Absolute Cognatic. I usually just console change my culture to toggle it on, then change back to my intended culture.

Nope. The Celtic Britons did, but never the English.

I guess he's thinking of people like Elizabeth I, but she only inherited because Edward died childless. It was agnatic-cognatic primogeniture, in CKII term.

Why would you ever bother with non-agnatic succ laws? It makes it impossible to land family members as the AI never seems to matry-marry heirs :/

It depends, purple born daughters of the byzantine emperor for example can be reliably married matrilineal to dukes.
