...I did not know that could happen.

Two of my children just had a child together. Somehow the poor guy's not inbred.

wtf.

Wow, I hadn't realized that the two were twins when this happened.

Together since birth, I guess...

Yeah, the game sometimes selects family members when assigning lovers. It's rare, but it happens. I've seen parents take their children as lovers, which is awkward.

I had a funny series of events happen with a lustful ruler.

He married and had children young, then 16 years later his son comes of age and I marry the son to another 16 year old. The king immediately takes his son's wife as a lover, and ends up being the father of what the game was treating as his grandson. That lasts a while and he winds up fathering several more kids from his son's wife to the point that he's the father of most of his son's children. Then 16 years later the "grandson" comes of age and gets his own wife. Suddenly the old king takes the new wife as a lover, and the first born son is, yet again, his. That also lasts a few years and soon half of the "grandson's" children are his. Then 16 years later... it all happens for a third time, so now over half of his "great grandchildren" are actually his sons and daughters. The third time around he was in his late 70s too. I almost thought it was all going to happen for a 4th time, but he died off in his 80s before his son/great grandson came of age to get a young wife.

That old king also had a few children from a couple of the other female courtiers, but he seems to mostly have had the hots for his sons' wives.

Eh, I don't normally have issues with them. Are you perhaps aiming too high?

No no, what I mean is, the Arrange Betrothal works fine.  Its accepted, the betrothed picture shows up next to the character with the betrothed legend, etc.  But when the minor becomes of age, nothing happens.  They remain forever-betrothed.  If you try to arrange marriage with either character, you get the arrange-marriage-between-peers option with no option to select the two you intend.  The only way I can get the marriage to happen is to break the betrothal (which causes opinion penalties), then immediately Arrange Marriage, and this is almost always accepted but runs the risk of a rejection due to the Break penalty.

Can't you just offer marriage to your betrothed once both are of age?

Well, no, I can't find the option for one (aside from the workaround), and the other problem is that if I've arranged it for a minor member of my court, I can't just babysit them to make sure it happens - a decade could pass before I might look at that character again.

Noone else is seeing this?  It happens

Um... You -need- to actually arrange the marriage when the time comes. It's not automatic.

But you should be getting a pop-up at the top of the screen, the little circles? It should be like, 2 rings. Maybe. Anyway, you click on that and it'll take you to the screen that lets you finish the marriage.

Ah, ok, I swore I saw that once before - but the pop-up doesn't happen every time.  Like I said, I found a 40 year old couple in my court betrothed for 20+ years. I can't seem to trigger it from my side, at least not through the couple; but I suspect I need to find the liege directly, and arrange it.  Thanks.

Nope, can't say I have the same problems as you Werdna. Odd.

I too get the little bubble notification, or failing that I just go into the diplomacy screen and do it manually.

Maybe you accidentally turned that notification off? It can be easy to do on accident and a real bitch to turn back on again.

Well I was able to answer my own question on whether or not you can turn Gotland into a republic at the same level as a kingdom.

Republics can't usurp Kingdoms. They can however create kingdoms if they meet the requirements. I ended up making the kingdom of Galacia after my mercenary armies acquired the proper territories. After that my kingdom was upgraded to the "Most Serene Republic of Galicia". Next goal is to form the Hispania empire (if I can).

I don't get why they need to prepend "Most Serene" to everything...

I always read Serene as Senor.

Senor Doge of Venice sounds way more awesome than Serene Doge imo. Might as well change this in the localization files.

Well, historically "Most Serene" was used to indicate sovereignty. Maybe Paradox thought that since both Genoa and Venice used it, every other independent republic would use it?

This is a bug due to the flag of gotland being after the flag of the aztecs in some files somewhere, and happens if the aztec dlc isn't enabled. There should be a fix on the first page of the bug forum, and I'm 99% sure it's fixed in 1.091 which is supposed to come out today. is out.
