You're too late by a couple rulers, sorry. He died a boring death.

Also, jesus CK2+ makes pretenders hate you... -50 relations made my first ruler's second son revolt both against his first son, and then his son. He's lucky he can't really hurt me, that I'm somewhat merciful as a player, and my Ruler Designer family is small. Otherwise I likely would have ruined/killed him.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

So, on the plus side, I've gone from being the duchess of Galicia, to the Queen of Galicia, Leon, and Castille. The Jimena family don't know what hit them.

On the negative side, said queen keeps thinking that her own son might be fancying her.

Does anyone know what causes that? It's... mildly creepy, to say the least. Crusader Kings+, if that helps.

That's... normal for the game. It's entirely possible to have incestuous marriages, and have incest babies. There is a pretty bad trait for that though, that can crop up.

Roleplay the Regent! One thing I really wish this game had was regents actually mattering more than stats. If you're playing the regent of a kingdom you should basically be playing the kingdom.
Regents can have more impact in events occasionally. I had one where my character became incapable and his third son who was so far out of the line of succession it wasn't even funny and had been requesting a title all his life became my regent. A few months later he is suddenly giving himself pieces of my land and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it.

It may be normal, but it's new to me. I learn new things about this game every time I play.

Whether I want to or not.

It doesn't happen too often, I think. I've had it happen a few times, where my queen's son is interested in her. I also had my countess, at 16, being romantically inclined to a 12 year old.

So, is there a tutorial for this floating around somewhere? I've played through one game, but stayed at the same level of nobleness the entire time.

The tutorial is politics itself, man! You ascend across generations. See a family nobler than yours? Do they have a free daughter? Save up some money and marry your heir to her. Or kill your wife and marry the girl yourself. You know, whatever works.

Heh, I promised my heir to someone of higher class, unfortunately he was homosexual, and a scholar. -20% fertility bonus was eventually the end of my reign. The one child he had was assassinated by my liege. DAMN YOU, Queen Something the Cruel!

You can also plot against people's claim to their titles, which makes it easy to sweep in and grab it. Especially if you have marriage ties. It's the less murdery way.

Vanilla republics are hilariously broken. I finally had time to play. I tried playing Gotland in vanilla and in the late 12th century, I have 15k retinue and make thousands per month. I could have steamrolled Nordic countries, instead I just formed independent Finland. My crazy retinue cap comes 90% from trade post garrisons. If I was power playing, I could have formed an empire of scandinavia or something by now.

I've been eating baltic coast for fun and funding random rebels in England, France and Germany. I haven't lost the doge's position once. Funny enough imprisoning a patrician for plotting to take your trade post and then executing him doesn't do anything. As in cause a vendetta or anything. In general, the internal politics are useless. They should be the thing keeping republics in check, imho, as the patricians were historically too busy plotting against each other to conquer the world.

Anyway, I guess I'll play a little longer before switching back to mods. I just find it good to play vanilla occasionally, especially when new DLCs come out. It keeps perspective fresh and makes me extra grateful for CK+ and the other excellent big mods.

Gotland is hilariously broken since there's no other competition in the northern sea. The Italian republics are much better since they spend a lot of their income fighting each other. It would be nice to see some kind of limit placed on republican growth. Perhaps they should have to ask permission to install a new trade hub in feudal lands with the ability to war states to open trading. This is pretty much what Venice did historically.

Vanilla is also just terribly balanced. I can't bring myself to play CK2 without Project Balanced installed. Muslims bullshit invasions, Fatimid blob of death, massive retinues stacks of death, HRE blob of death, etc etc.

Occasionally is the key word. Claimants should be struggling to be regents for more than just a small chance at a little bit of land. If a claimant is regent, there should be a good chance they immediately contest the succession with the benefit of royal armies.

Oh, you seize trade posts via starting a plot... This'll be fun. I have a few loyal people and I'm burning through an imprisoned vassal's trade posts with 190% plot power each time.

150% plot power (which is usually pretty easy to get) is enough to seize the trade post with no possible negatives.

I was recently playing a republic game myself. I found that PJ added a Muslim trade republic in Seljuk lands. It happened to have a merchant family that was Zoroastrian - the only "landed" Zoroastrian character in the game.
I had an extremely fun game of saving up, building trade posts and finally bribing to become head Doge. The best part of becoming a doge was having the right to imprison the other noble family when I've caught them plotting (23 intrigue genius wife). While they were in prison I was able to force convert them to Zoroastrian, release them, give them some gold and then due to the massive relationship they take with their (now) heathen family members I was able to invite them to plots to seize their family's trade posts. Destroying merchant families from the inside out - Good times!

Of course Zoroastrian isn't all that fleshed out in the mod so I didn't haven't a religious head or any unique events. This was a small price to pay for the lack of decadence that Muslim republics get completely CRUSHED by.
A couple generations later I was able to create some crippling faction demands on the Seljuks who then started to collapse when combined with extended wars with the Greeks to the west. I was easily able to gobble up a sizable chunk of land and start really dominating trade in the area. I got bored when I got a massive stack of OP Persian retinues and could crush almost everything that came my way.
