This is the problem with a lot of these grand strategy games, once you know what to do the challenge starts dissipating as you end up going through the same processes you've done in all your other games.

I liked the idea here, posted a few pages back, of playing for one character's lifespan, then switching randomly to a new character. Keeps you from having to deal with that particular issue. Also they recommended roleplaying your character based on traits, instead of just going for the "best" choice each time.

Going to try it my next game, after I brutally carved the Scandinavian Empire out.

Man people talk about all this dosh Patricians make, and I think I haven't gotten over +10 a month without just getting bored, cheating up a bunch of money, and just building trade ports everywhere. I got to like, 5 or something legit...

You have to have contiguous trade zones. It gets to something like +95% trade post income and +45% city income for ALL cities in the trade zone pretty fast. Unfortunately it appears to approach an infinite limit and never actually hit +100% or +50% though.

Ah that's tricky to do in Italy with every single Patrician practically owning a port in a trade zone. Haven't tried Gotland, as it's bugged and you seem to instantly game over if you design a ruler for it.

I'm fond of "empire building".  Essentially, you take over a dynasty until they've established a kingdom or empire, then switch to somebody else.  For extra fun, switch to somebody that lives near the giant you created.

Oh, it's superb. As polished (and with a hell of a lot more content) than any DLC released by Paradox. And if you're a fan of the books, you'll squee at the attention to detail that's in there.

Holy Schmidt, So after about 100 odd years of peacful and lovely reigns from my Family of Swedish awesome people, this Dick comes along, and I RP him, everyone revolts as usual at the start of his reign and he ends up executing everyone, ALL of their successors revolt again, he wins and imprisons them and ends up executing some and taking ALL of the dukedom titles, finally he hols a grand tournament like a boss, and ITS A BIG HIT... then he and his wife were brutally murdered, he accrued approximately 1200 fame though before his unseemly end and fufilled his ambition of becoming exalted among men. Now his son is like 4 and isnt dead yet, most vassals kinda hate him cause he still holds the duke titles and lost the kingdom of Denmark... I think ill take a break now.

Roleplay the Regent! One thing I really wish this game had was regents actually mattering more than stats. If you're playing the regent of a kingdom you should basically be playing the kingdom.

Man, I'm awful at this game. Apparently the GoT mod isn't updated to include all the new DLC, so I played as a merchant republic. I chill around for a year and save up some money for some trading posts, then wham, Muslims attack.

So I raise all the troops in my country and realize I still have less than them. So hire some mercenaries and, wham, there goes all my money. I beat them back, offer white peace eventually, and then leave and try to regain some of my money.

Two other muslim dudes also declared war. One sends in like 40 dudes at a time and I beat him back until he accepts my white peace, and the other dude does nothing. I get up to like 34% war score against him because he doesn't do anything for like three years, but he still won't accept white peace. Then he lands an army bigger than mine on my capital, and I don't have enough money for mercenaries. He captures it.

You at least let yourself lose. I just use the console and give myself gold all the time. I really want to play CK2 "normally" but I never can. Just find it dull unless I cheat so I can constantly build all my holdings and expand...

If I get bored I'll probably start doing stuff like that, but I know from experience that I burn out on games a lot faster once I start cheating.

It does remove a lot of the challenge I agree. Still, can't ever seem to have fun otherwise personally. 'Course, everyone has their own tastes and ways of enjoying the game. I'm just too used to Total War, I think.

I did, he was a kindly old Bishop (and damn, do I have alot of kindly people in Sweden) He gave back a number of dukedoms, but decided it be best if Finland and the historically held (within the gamespan) titles stay with the young king. His interregnum was pretty uneventful and I gave him seneschal because he was boss and didnt try to kill the son of a mad-king. After my king came of age, there was a relatively major revolt about restoring elective succession which he promptly siwped into the trash, he has alot of nice traits though so he was merciful and didnt execute a one, releasing them all, and endearing most of the kingdom to him. Sweden is firmly back on course to becoming the Empire of Scandinavia, Ill FINNISH taking my provinces in the Kingdom of Finland, then finally incorporate Norway, which WILL be bloody, because they somehow joined the HRE. Thankfully to counteract this, Mega-Saxony is free and on good terms with me, I think we're allies, gotta check though, and its not even 1200 yet.

EDIT: I ended up having to load a slightly earlier save, where instead of being assassinated the mad king dies of gonorhea a couple of years later, these events stem from that, I ended up NOT loding Denmark.

Holy cow this is amazing.

In my CK2+ game, I've got a Duelist, Slothful, Shy, Envious, Craven, Lustful, Leper, and Possessed bishop. With 29 martial.

No, that's not a typo. Apparently due to being possessed, god is giving him military advice worth an additional +20 martial. God has turned this dude into a fricking demigod of war. Also, I'm definitely accepting his request to be my marshal.

Too bad I don't have any wars to use him in, though! He likely won't live long because of Leper's -3 health and the fact that he's 48.

Fun facts: In the other wide world there's a woman with 35 martial (also being given advice by god), two actually non-possessed badasses with 29 martial, two more women with 28 and 27 martial who are also being given advice by god, and one non-possessed dude with 27 martial who has 15 base martial.
