This is amazing.

Why would I ever use that?

You obviously never had one of your vassals inherit a county next to the Mongols...

Eh, I'm normally ruling at least half of the available world by the time the Mongols appear.  They're rarely a threat.

Playing A New World, The Dawn of Empires mod. I have managed to build cities for a couple of doges and they have been giving me quite a bit of money. Unfortunately they have a tendency of getting very unruly. Plus they seem to spawn millions of plagues, which also tends to lead to a lot of dead doges. Cant afford to bribe every doge if they die every year.

So, they start a war to lower crown authority. Luckily I saw it coming and had been devoting the funds of the last couple of years into military. They have an army of 3000, I had 4200 and so I thought no problem unless they get lucky. My army marches toward theirs, and then I notice something odd, apparently I was hitting the supply limit at 4000 troops and was losing 25% of my troops to attrition.

I check the county and see that it has a supply limit of 1 and ALL OF THE DISEASES. ALL OF THEM. Like holy shit, I just walked my army into a plague zone so bad that it should be blacked out on the map like a desert or siberia. I imagine that a lot of my troops instantly dropped dead when they walked into the province from a combination of pneumonia, black death, syphilis and whatever the hell else was there. The whole area should quarantined and burned to the ground. It should forever be known in the annals of history as the cursed place, and anyone who enters should be executed and burned, and then the executers executed and burned lest the diseases spread. People of the future would not heed the warnings, thinking them silly superstitions until they unearth a giant lump of half-alive diseased tissue that shall sing the song that ends the world. The world shall be consumed by the plagues and explorers from alien worlds coming to see this world will never return home. Rescue parties will be sent, but they too will be lost until the whole galaxy steers clear of the cursed planet, with even the most advanced species fearing the disease that still linger. The rest of the universe shall end in time, but the earth will survive into the birth of a new universe. It shall be an endless bane upon the whole of existance, until existance itself ends.

And then it will have fulfilled its goal.

Sometimes I inherit far flung kingdoms on the other side of the map which I have no desire in trying to protect. I remember in an Irish -> Britannia game I inherited a baltic kingdom a couple of decades after it was taken in a crusade. I really had no desire to try and protect it so I married my brother off to a HRE princess and gave him the title, waiting for it to leave my realm when the next heir inherited. However I had to put up with a whole bunch of pagan raids since my current leader lived for ages. Just declaring him independent and lettinh him deal with the pagans by himself and his big bad HRE goon would have been much more preferable.

Woah, that is one awesome province. But yeah, A New World 1.08 has a lot of problems with diseases. I prefer 1.07 (for more than one reason).

It's an awesome mod, anyway. Y'all should try it out.

I've been trying to play the Lux Invicta mod, but every time I hit the single-player button, the map shows the vanilla CK2 nations and crashes immediately. Does anyone know what causes this to happen or if the mod requires/is incompatible with any of the DLCs?

Finally formed Empire of Scandanavia around the year 1390. Yay for me. I ended up keeping the kingdoms of Norway and Sweden and giving away Denmark and Finland (seemed like a good idea, as the new kings were ecstatic with me, before I got poisoned and they rebelled against my new six year old emperor in the middle of a war against similarly sized England... but I digress).

Any thoughts on whether to keep kingdoms for yourself or give them away once emperor? Seems like fewer vassals to worry about, and I kept two kingdoms for myself in case of rebellion. Also seems a bit less "gamey" than keeping all the kingdoms. Interested to hear thoughts.

I tend to destroy as many kingdoms as possible.  It's one less thing for vassals to moan about.

You also get kingdom de jure shift if you only keep one.

Oh god, this made me sad. My love affair that produced a bastard (damn you "lustful" trait) said she thought I loved my wife more. I told her that was absolutely correct and our relationship was cut off. She dies a day later, natural death. :(

Crusader Kings is going to be available on Ubuntu through Steam, which makes my Windows feel "pretty unneeded".

Best to ask on the lux invicta forums, but if I had to guess try clearing your map cache, placing the mod in CK2's document folder, or something like that.

Hmm, yeah. Maybe I should've elaborated more :P

Anyway, on August 15, 1128 I managed to unite all of Ireland except for a lone county up north that flipped to Scottish rule before I could wrench the title from the childless noble ruling it. For some reason, after giving my nobles the duchies, a bunch of them start pursuing claims against each other and Ireland erupts into civil war between the dukes. I think 3 wars were started, which held up the levies of my vassals and I just went on with my campaign. I assassinated the countess with -100 relation with me who was plotting to forge a claim on my land and then turned my sights on one of the many weak claims somebody in my realm has on British Isles or European land. I gathered my armies, sailed across the sea and attacked a county on the British Isles to begin my slow creep across that continent too. That's where I stopped for now.
