I'm starting a new game in which I will try to play according to my traits as much as possible. Character will be chosen by getting a random number between 1 and 929 (the number of counties on the map) and play whomever holds that title (retrying until the character is playable). Everytime I die, I will choose a new character.

First random number is 59: County of Chester. Well, I guess that might be a Saxon vassal :S

No, but do you LIKE murdering multiple Holy Roman Emperors in rapid succession only to have you vassal become Holy Roman Emperor? Didn't think so.
I wouldn't so such a thing.  Holy Roman Emperor is elected, so no amount of killing is going to get me the job.  Instead, I'd kill for a king title, as most of those are inherited, and everybody has to recognize my son/grandson/daughter/granddaughter as their king/queen no matter what.  Like modern politics, elected positions can only be earned by bribes, not assassinations.

Where are you finding these numbers? Sounds like a fun game idea.

Makes me wonder what downside Tanistry has. Elective where your dynasty can't be voted out? Sign me up! Overpowered Celts are overpowered.
Ultimogeniture is possibly easier to game to get a good heir. Just divorce/kill your wife and go and marry an old one when you finally have a genius heir. Still not as good as elective however.

Well, that must have been embarrassing for all parties involved.

Wait, what? You could vassalize the assassins before?

Marry the Holy Roman Emperor and promptly invade France. Tada! Then you can have fun collapsing.

You could also vassalise Catholic holy orders. Usually it was easy enough to do if you both shared the same culture and you've gave them a holding. You could then revoke the holy order's holding to then take the holy order's title allowing you to raise the order for yourself at no costs. It did take up a duke slot however so it wasn't quite worth it.

They have to honour the call but that doesn't mean they have to do anything. So many times I've had scumbag allies who answer the call to avoid the prestige hit and just sit around - never raising a single levy (although to be fair I'm guilty of this too).

That is actually something that I do all the time. If I'm playing as Barcelona then I don't want to get involved in some land squabbles in the eastern parts of the HRE.

Surely they'll do something if their own provinces are threatened?

Well first you have to get the invasion casus belli from the Pope which could be a tall order if you're a woman (I'm not even sure if they can be granted the invasion cb, I rarely play women).  If the AI has any sense it would just rush it's doom stacks straight into your heartlands completely ignoring the HRE, taking your capital and a couple provinces should make you default the war.
Even if this tactic did work it's limited to the Basque only as an Emperor, king or even duke would never agree to a matrilineal marriage thus meaning the claim wouldn't go through your dynasty. The Basque have enough problems without having to deal with French civil wars.

You didn't need to reference my earlier questions. I was just asking about the AI in general.

Also, I am completely sure that I have gotten some dukes of different dynasties into matrilineal marriages with my daughters before in my CKII Plus games. Though I'm not sure if they've changed it from vanilla or not.

All mods have so far managed to severely slow down my game, generally resulting in fiery crashes of doom, so I'm glad it's in the base game now.
