I'm fairly sure the titles you give them have to be equal-rank or higher to the claims you press, otherwise they'll just take the land you gave them and go independent. CK2 claims, how do they work?

The trouble is that pressing someone else's claim on a Kingdom doesn't work like pressing a claim on a country or duchy. The mouseover text says something like "they will join your realm if you are the de jure liege or they are a member of your dynasty" which is true for all claims that aren't Kingdom claims.

I just conquered Norway. Found out that its on elective. I would change it, but the problem is that my current ruler is old as hell. Even his title is "The Old". Its suprising that the dude is still alive, especially considering he lead the attack on Norway. I half expected him to die while I was conquering, but the dude hasnt gotten sick even once. The only thing he has is a badass scar. But thats beside the point. My problem is that I need to somehow get my welsh grandson elected(married my son to a welsh countess, they have a baby, son dies, welsh grandson inherits). Any tips on manipulating peoples votes?

Having a voting title a giving one to the person you want elected works well too, it's already 2 votes granted.

Ooh, very nice. Though I'm totally going to imagine the sea is magma and that the world is trapped in a hell dimension.

Nope, you need to hold a title higher than the one whose claim you are pressing and he needs to be a vassal of yours; if he is a Count or a King doesn't matter. For instance if the King of France was the Emperor of Francia at the start of the game, William's conquest of England would make him a King under said Emperor; he'd have to rebel or form Britannia to go independant. As is, he automatically goes independant and takes Normandy with him, since the King of France cannot have a fellow King as vassal.

I've pressed ducal claims for a count vassal - upon victory, he became independent. I was the Emperor of Hispania. Bug, I'm guessing?

I ended up fabricating a claim for myself, then granting the title to the claimant, hehe.

Yup.
Well, I think it is, it might not be, given how crown laws interact (or don't interact, its pretty hard to tell sometimes).

It should stay in your kingdom unless you're giving it to some complete stranger who's not one of your vassals.

Generally, when I hand out titles, I sort by male, my religion and my culture. Then give to people there. If I'm aiming for lots and lots of powerful dynasty members for a big dynasty score, then I give to relatives first.

Might be irrelevant, but you should also consider making your vassals as weak as possible. This means things like giving each county to a completely different person, and giving a random person out of those guys the duchy for that area. Then making sure your Kingdom's centralization is medium or higher. This way your vassals will spend all their time scheming amongst each other instead of trying to ruin you. And even if they somehow manage to rebel, their holdings will be all over the place making it really hard for them to defend, and they will have no units to work with as all their own vassals will hate them. And whenever someone somehow manages to unite a large portion of it together, just ruin him somehow and split the lands up again.

I personally prefer having as few direct vassals as possible (Kings) and bribing them senseless with the lands gained in Holy Wars. Trying to keep your vassals weak simply doesn't work once you own multiple Empires.
