Yeah, gavelkind is a bad idea in my book. Have multiple kingdoms? Lol good joke, say goodbye to a bunch of them when your king dies.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Gavelkind worked out well when I had only daughters. Almost everything went to the oldest girl, a single county each went out to two of the other girls. Maybe it's just that way with girls though. I don't think I've dealt with it with sons in a while.

If you have multiple of your highest-tier, they split up.

Otherwise, your eldest gets your main tier, and other counties get split up amongst the youngers. Maybe duchies are split too, if you have them.

Or at least, that's how it's supposed to be. Doesn't seem like it's always calculating right, kmy heir got both the Kingdoms Poland and Lithuania, but the two duchies were passed on to his brothers.

I prefer Elective, though. Then I can choose my own heir.

Yeah, I've had some weirdness with gavelkind as well, though that might've been because of different crown laws my kingdom titles. Say, I've got the Empire of Hispania now, if I hypothetically changed from primogeniture to elective on just the Empire laws, would the chosen successor inherit all the kingdom titles as well?

Were you sure Poland and Lithuania were both Gavel? One might have been Primo (I.e. the one that your sons didn't get counties in)

Spoiler: Jerusalem (click to show/hide)

Well, I decided to form Jerusalem, make it to my primary and destroy Poland as title.

THis will fuck up the dukes for sure, but I can handle it right now (mostly because I got France, England and Hungary as allies, as well as being rich). Just need to wait 100 years, hoo!

Gavelkind is like nuclear energy, it has so many positives but it can destroy everything if you ain't careful.

Relationship bonus with your vassals, less pretenders, bigger holding limit size.
It's not too bad if you can control your offspring population and only stick with one heir. Although that's generally an easy way to end your dynasty.  Personally I hate it and move away from it as quick as possible.

My vassals seem to be constantly fighting each other despite high crown authority (fighting to impose pretenders, fighting against tyranny, etc), so despite starting a crackdown in the later years of my reign, I've been unable to completely stamp out the tyranny so far.

Also not sure how well any other succession method else would work - right now it's saying that all titles except a couple counties would go to the eldest son, including all the kingdoms I've created (as the Byzantine Emperor). Of course, there's a problem with that. He's... really not the best guy for the job. The second one would be much better.

Yes, because I've been racing against time to change them both to Elective before my queen dies..

I love, how fitting some random events are.

Robert 'Guiscard' dies. His elder son, Bohemond, gets Apulia, younger Roger - Calabria. As Ademar, count of Taranto, I have claims on both. Instead of pressing them,  I conquer neighboring neutrals, playing a loyal vassal. I can form Duchy of Capua, but choose not to.

Thing is, Bohemond is a very nervous guy. He has 'stressed' trait, not without reason, as Zirid press hia brother.

Then I DOW Roger. Bohemond does nothing. Even when I claim Calabria, taking a large chunk of Apulia in the process.

Two days after the war ends, he dies 'of severe stress'.

That's not true. Inheritance laws are per kingdom/empire. So if you have two gavelkind kingdoms they will both be split up individually and your eldest sons will get both kingdom titles because the eldest son gets the best title with gavelkind. Your realm will only split of you have multiple county/duchy titles and no kingdom/empires titles.
