Maybe Hamachi? Pretty sure CKII has a lan option and although it's been a while since I've used Hamachi I believe you didn't have to port forward or mess with router settings.

Paradox still needs to work on their multiplayer a bit though. It needs a Defcon like pause system where everyone can choose the speed/pause and the person with the lowest setting wins. This can of course scale with more players and have it more "democratic" so it takes more people simultaneously to lower the speed.
I suppose some kind of puesdo-turn based system could work where everyone inputs their controls at the start of the month and it plays out. This sorta neglects the mechanics of the game though.

use hamachi, it works.

Besides that, the metaserver works fairly ok, although its under maintenance at the moment i think.

I should mention that even WITH hamachi a direct-connect will still have to be used I think (unless you have a lan cable or whatever there called these days)

Spoiler: Fuck my face (click to show/hide)

For the record, this was extremely anti-climatic. Basically they landed their armies, which was a few 4,000-6,000 man armies, and one or two 15,000 ones. It was pretty hard at one or two points, and my army got beaten at least once. But then I realized the war had gone on for five years at that point, and my Levies had refilled. Around Tens of Thousands worth of levies, due to Greek Tech Advancement + Boat loads of money to expend on improvements. Que subsquent crubstomping of Shia Muslims (Mostly due to attrition, if anything. Anatolia has a LOT of moutains.) and surrender of their forces. All in all, they only managed to occupy three of my holdings, and only one of those was ACTUALLY in Anatolia. The other two were occupied by some random raiding Muslim army in NORTHERN BULGARIA*. Thats the real kicker too. They managed to get two of my provinces MILES away from where they should have actually been Jihading. Great job guys. Great job.

(*Due to mega-Pechenegs forming the Khanate of Bulgaria and engulfing the Kingdom of Wallachia in its De Jure territory, Northern Bulgaria is actually around the area of Wallachia.)

The AI cannot handle attrition at all in this game. The lack of naval warfare also make retreating and moving armies in coastal regions easy as hell. I think the AI might need some warfare tweaks.

Attrition isn't all, the AI also seems to be utterly unable to do anything but charge in with doomstacks and be outmaneuvered by multiple smaller armies. I literally watched a 10K army try to chase around a few 1-3K armies, which resulted in the war being lost several times even with my help simply because of occupation.

Combined with the loops they get stuck in sometimes and the AI definitely needs tweaks.

If there was a paradox grand strategy game where the AI didn't need tweaks i'd be afraid :P

I'm having fun in my first game, currently king of Ireland. When my mother dies i'll inherit the Duchy of Florence and 2 others in Italy, and my heir will also be heir to a Duchy in Scotland.

True but the AI seemed to be a lot more competent (warfare) in other Paradox games than it does CKII. EU3 AI could be pretty terrifying at times.

Yeah, when playing EU3 I don't think I had as many "Really, AI?" moments in such a short time. Though of course that could just be me, so your mileage may vary.

Poland can into space?

on the other hand, in EU3 the AI is quite happy to bounce around provinces retreating, send in doom stacks as you siege all their provinces at once, and sit in provinces with 15% attrition ratios as long as there's someone in the next province over. Perhaps its not as widespread now, but its certainly there.

Spoiler your images, please.

As for the AI, I don't think it's any better it worse than EUIIIs, they've both got the same kind of weaknesses, basically. With the exception of naval movement. I'm really happy they got it reasonably smart this time.

I find that the ck2 ai is better in terms of coordination then the eu3 ai. At least, smaller armies do attach themselves to larger armies that they're allied with. Except with crusades, where everyone flounders around on their own and dies horribly.

Sounds pretty realistic to me.
