My first serious game, I've managed to become king of ireland and suddenly all 8 of my sons die. 4 during crusades, 4 in the years after.

And I have no heirs.

Fuck
Be glad you aren't playing CK1. The game was constantly 'all your heir are belong to us'-ing.

This is one of the reasons I like to have the lustful trait as a back-up. You'll have a whole bunch of bastards that you can legitimise and you'll still be pumping out babies with your wife well into your 80s (considering you trade in and get a new model every 20 years or so.).
Just make sure you don't have lustful and gravel-kind, that's never a good mix.

To me, CK (and slightly less so CK2) Were the easiest of the Paradox grand strategy games to get into. Hard to be good at, because it's difficult to keep succession rules and family lines straight, but as far as the interface, it's pretty easy to figure out how to do the basics.

I've never understood the EU games and Vicky took a long while to get into. The WW2 games took a while to figure out too, but I started with those. (forget the name completely at the moment.)

It's this succession law where all of your children are in a kind of pit of the shape with the same number of corners as children (ie: 4 children is a square pit, 5 is a pentagon, etc.)
Upon your death, they all get 5 minutes to pick up as much gravel as they can and put it in their corner. Titles are then distributed according to percent gravel, with the person with the most gravel getting the highest and most titles.

The modern day variation is where they each hire a bunch of red and / or blue mercenaries to fight over a gravel pit forever.

I just can't wait until there's a reliable converter so I can enjoy noble shenanigans up until 1948.
