Hah. Wonder how they'd Anglicize (Scottify?) that. (for example, referring to "King Henry Plantagenet" when it was actually Henri, or Stephen of Blois for Etienne de Blois.

"Och, long live King Gomys!"

For my O'Brian game, I still need to figure out how to remove the line of Coenwulf, so that I can pass the throne to his younger brother Beornwulf. For one thing, dat name. Nobody, but nobody wants to fuck with King Bear-Wolf. (even though historically, Coenwulf of Mercia had a better reign than Beornwulf of Mercia).

I remember the ethnic thing being important to me in CK1. In my Aquitanian game, by the 1200s I had made an unofficial law that all the ruling d'Aquitaines could only marry Occitan women, to keep the bloodline pure and spread the Occitan culture throughout the Empire. Of course, as fate would have it, the Black Death led to a lesser nephew inheriting the throne at one point: Manuel d'Aquitaine, a Castillian by birth. Manuel I turned out to be the greatest emperor in Aquitanian history.  :P

you remember that ruler I was worried was too old to give heirs?

well, it seems I underestimated ... a couple of things about him.

he is 85 now, and has recently seen the birth of his 9th child.
9th!! at 85 years old!

of course it is a bastard, like the daughter he had earlier. his wife is now way too old for children, and they hate each other deeply(plus, his wife became celibate).
but I legitimized him anyway.

sadly, he is ill now, so his end may be near. however, a couple of years ago he got ill too, but then recovered perfectly.
maybe he is immortal?

the good thing is that his long reign bonus is almost at +35, which makes the realm stable.
the bad thing is that losing that bonus suddenly may mean GREAT problems.
also, my heir is 45 already, which puts him at risk of natural death in the near future.

I wonder what will happen.

If a character has any fertility-increasing trait they can still have children even outside of normal childbearing years.

maybe he is immortal?

After playing with some of the cheats, I had an idea for a game mode centered around an immortal Sovereign. Your character can live forever, basically, as long as you sacrifice people, whether by imprisonment or assassination. For each point of health they have on death, you get one more year of life. Your ruler can still die, of course, so it may be a good idea to have a heir to pass the knowledge of immortality to, but the idea is to have as few characters as possible throughout the course of the game.

I'm rather certain that immortal characters are impossible, as even if you give someone a trait which gives +100 health they'll only live to be 200 something. Or at least that's how it was. Maybe constantly adding new health points would result in immortality.

you could probably add enough health to make them live until the end of the game. Effective immortality.

Alternatively, de-age them. Though I think that moves their birthdate.

see, it is not just the fertility that is astonishing, but that they can survive making the deed with the wife/courtier of choice.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about. I don't think it's possible to add health with in-game cheats.

Anybody know if DynasticGlory (or some similar tool) is available for CK2? I know a lot of the functionality of that has been added to CK2 itself, but DynasticGlory had some nicer presentation options.

Actually yes, the CK2 version is barely a week old:

"Gloria Mundi" by the same guy who made DynasticGlory

Still a WIP, yet very satifying in its current state.

hm. so, my new king is disliked by my vassals.
luckily, the really powerful ones seem relatively content, and I doubt claimants will do much. but I expect tons of rebellions.

bad thing is, I seem to be internationally despised. the king of sicily arranged my excommunication ( for whatever reason... I don't know why he wouldn't like me) and after seeing the list of rebellious vassals grow dangerously close to the middle of the screen ( very long), I had to appoint an anti pope.
I guess I'll lose some stuff in this war...
but last time I managed to recover , so I will do it again.

also, when my son inherits, I'll also get a french duchy and 4 provinces. just 1 if vassals don't stay loyal to duke. so the future can still be bright.

considering that I already bribed everyone and I am out of non land titles, any tips? ( besides crushing rebellions with an iron fist)

Never done it myself, but if you have lots of rebellious counts you can transfer them to loyal dukes.

most counts are fines. it is dukes who I am worried about, and giving them even more power... is not a good idea in the long run.
I already have vassals who can probably field armies bigger than my own. which is a great security risk.
