So an update on my game I've been playing off and on again.

Ireland still owns the British Isles, Brittainy, Bohemia, Jerusalem. Now Syria, Egypt, the duchies of Iceland, Sardinia and Normandy are all united under the harp.

Byzantium has almost fallen to the might of the turks, I'm waiting for them to come close to toppling so they'll accept the first Irish emperor to lead them to glory. The Golden Horde was stopped at Hungary with a coalition of Poles, Boheminas, Germans and Irishmen. It was quickly dismembered and it terrorises Europe no more.

Teutonic Order has claimed a sizeable chunk of Kiev and Finland in the wake of the Golden Horde collapse, they lead the holy war against the Eastern Pagans. Deus Vult!

Muslim authority has fallen so low there's nothing left but heretics. Sunni and Shittie are stories from the past. Arabia belongs to the pale skinned ones.

Wow. Everyone is exploding.

There is infighting in England, HRE, and mega-Lithuania.

The English literally had all but their two counties rise of to dispose of their ruler. It's ended now, but jesus.

The HRE has a huge chunk of Netherlands/Belgium trying to dispose of their ruler.

And Lithuania has a large number of counts and dukes trying to get independence.

And, the heir to Hungary is a Hunchback, is Deceitful, Cynical, Envious, Greedy, and Wroth. And has a miserable self-diplomacy of 3 compared to his father's 18. So I'm pretty sure an explosion in Hungary is not an impossibility.

Edit: Lithuania is winning. And now someone is rebelling for independence against one of the guys trying to dispose of the HRE emperor.

Edit2: HRE won, and now the rebelling count of the traitor is sadface and lost his county somehow. Meanwhile, Lithuania is still in chaos.

This game is 300% awesome.

I've finally figured out how to make money (Me: "You can build stuff?!"), so I started a new game as the King of Denmark and am in the process of building a mess of castle villages everywhere so I can get some Universities erected sooner without breaking the bank too much. All of my councilors (Except my steward) are off researching or stealing technology, and I somehow got a really high national Knowledge score. Hopefully I'll be able to triumph over Northern Europe by sheer force of technological advantage.

And your country's capital is where ever your king is, right? And technology spreads more rapidly from there, too?

As great as this game is, it makes a lot of assumptions as to what you know. It blatantly refers to CKI in the tutorial at points, glossing over details in favor of "what's new" - Well, everything's new to me, you dolt! [/wroth].

I would say having no self diplomacy isn't entierly a bad thing (I think Grimith had 0 at some point and nothing exploded, he has a positive number now), but Ireland is rather more stable than Hungary, or at least seems like it.

Well, I'm pretty sure he held all his counties directly for quite a while, didn't he? So diplomacy didn't really matter at all there. Hungary is about 7/8ths vassals (including me). Having vassals happy is pretty important in their case.

Anyway, Lithuania finally is mopping up after 8 years of chaos. Two dukes and one count won their independence. I don't expect them to remain independent for long.

Edit: Saw it coming, Hungary exploded again, right after I went back to the HRE.

Well, in my game I started as Ireland again. Formed the kingdom before my first ruler died, and I currently am king of Wales and Ireland with my 2nd ruler. Only problem... Norway took over England and him and I keep usurping a Dutchy from one another, due to the fact that 1 county of wales was in possession of a English duke when Norway took over. Norway holds so much it's stupid.

Press the crown-shaped button next to your portrait, go to your Chancellor advisor, click on the middle of the three buttons (The one that looks like a shield and a hand grabbing it, If I remember correctly) and click on the province you want to go to war with.

A little animated dude should show up on the province, that signifies he is working there.

After a while, anywhere from 3 weeks to 30 years, you will get an event window letting you "Use it!" to gain a claim on the county and go to war for it.

Other wars of war are Holy Wars, De Jure wars, claimant wars, etc.

So in my ongoing multiplayer game of CK2 I am Sweden, my buddy is Norway. Our two families are so intertwined at this point that we have to be careful not to marry off blood relatives.

It is 1109. The Norse religion no longer exists, and their lands are divided between Norway and Sweden. We're pressing in on Rus at the moment. Scotland is being invaded by Norway. The English are getting their shit stomped by the Holy Roman Empire. France is wracked by civil war. Spain's capital is under siege by some duke who raised an army to depose the Spanish king.

I just betrothed one of my daughters to the HRE's son in a matrilineal marriage. Now if I bump off his older brother who is the heir to the kingdom of the HRE I could stand to inherit the entire thing.

How do you declare war on the HRE? Every time I try, it says I can't because the leader's not independent.

Yeah, you have to declare war on the person who has the title. Click a province, check the owner, click up to his liege and keep going up the chain to find the King/Kaiser/Whatever in charge of that kingdom. Wardec THAT guy.

Also: Kaiser's son is now being educated by my king's wife, who has a 20 stewardship and 18 intrigue.

Seems the Dunkelds are on their way to dynastic extinction. The last King of Scotland (no, not Idi Amin), Alfgar Richardsson Dunkeld was the only male out of several children. In turn, he had but one child: a daughter, Ealdgyth. She was married (matrilineally) for some godforsaken reason to a bishop 20 years her senior. I'm guessing Friar Pedophile couldn't get it up because she had but one son, and he was a bastard. Meaning that the Scottish crown had NO claimants after Ealdgyth. I considered bumping off her geezer husband and trying to marry her (or to one of my sons, as I actually like my wife) but I didn't wannt to create a dead-end in the family tree as she's past childbearing age.

Or so I thought...she popped out three little girls in rapid succession before her husband died. On the face of things they're legitimate children (maybe the exertion is what killed him  :P). I managed to betroth the eldest daughter to my 3rd son, Dungal. If play my cards right, House O'Brian is going to have the crown of Scotland fall right into our laps. And with careful culling of the two elder sons' branches, Dungal's child could inherit and unite the crowns of Ireland and Scotland. Hopefully we can then work out an alliance with Norway and pounce on England (which for the moment has once again seperated from Norway...same House, but they keep uniting and dividing regularly).

CK2 definitely plays different from CK1. Far less open warfare, far more intrigue. I'm digging it.

Childbirth is heavily dependent on the number of characters in a court.  Apparently if a court already has too many characters, mommy and daddy just won't have the privacy to get it on.  I'm guessing that's what caused her to have a sudden bout of fertility just before menopause, the neighbors upstairs moved out.
