Darn it, the AI of my son or my son's wife was retarded. He sent his own daughter and son to a horrible guardian, and now my new heir is Craven, Proud, Greedy, Ambitious, and Cruel. And he's almost a adult now. AND I CANNOT EDUCATE HIM MYSELF EVEN IF WANTED TO BECAUSE MY STUPID WIFE WON'T LET ME. Argh...

Edit: HAH! MY WIFE DIED AT AGE 32! That's karma for you.

You need either the mod that has empires everywhere or for 1.06 to come out to form the Empire of Spain. :P

well, ambitious shouldn't be too much of a problem, unless he is, at any point in his life, somebody's vassal.

everything else, however? that guy will have a terrible reign.

pre-edit: @ Descan  awwww... my hopes are gone. I'll keep stacking crowns on my head until it looks like the leaning tower of Pisa, and then my neck breaks.

eventually, I'll start breeding heirs which are short, wide and neckless , evolved to bear the weight of goden crowns!

Proud and Greedy can be good in some respects. At least you didn't get Arbitrary.

Yeah honestly only craven and cruel are objectively bad, especially not ambitious. Why the hell would your heir being ambitious be a bad thing?

I picked this gem up a few days ago, and I'm having a lot of success, albeit somewhat mixed success.

Story of myself going from the controller of the County of Dublin to the Kingdoms of Ireland, Scotland, and England, and then controller of nothing spoilered for length.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Anyway, this game is extremely fun, but I have a couple questions. Most important question I have is this: How the hell do you continue to take over new lands without making your vassals hate you and rebel due to revoking titles and/or too many demesnes/duchies? If my vassals would just rebel one or two at a time I could curbstomp them, but when 5 of them rebel and my 2 main duchys are being taken over by roughly 10k-20k troops, I can't really fight back.

I'm vassal to a king. So he definitely will be a vassal to him too.

Anyway, I just listed all of his stats rather than the ones I thought were truly bad. Yes, those were all of his stats. He did not have a single green one. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure if Ambitious or Proud are bad. Is it bad if you're a vassal of a king?

And I think Greedy is bad, because it gives -2 diplomacy, and -0.1 Piety for 10% cash gain. And I have a feeling it might spawn some baaad events/bad choices for events. Not worth it in my opinion when I'm so small.

Go slow. Don't revoke too much. Use revokation plots. Assassinate the claimants in wars to end them easily. Assassinate the larger duchies heirs until you are the heir, then kill the duke. Keep a stockpile of money for mercenaries and assassinations.

Go slow.

you really don't need an huge demesne. there are penalties other than the whole kingdom hating you.

besides, if you want a new county, you can try waiting until one of your vassals rebels. when you imprison it after the war, you should be able to revoke one of his titles without penalty. ( well, he will hate you, but he is already in prison. everyone else won't care because he is a traitor)

also, instead of getting more counties, you could just try building more minor holdings. won't give you as much, but is less risky than revoking.

expanding doesn't always mean revoking and taking as your own. vassals are good. just don't make them too angry.

in my current game I can raise 10k soldiers myself ( should be more, but half my counties still suffer penalties from being recently conquered). from my vassals I can raise up to 70k men. and they still have plenty to spare. most of my strength isn't in my own hands, but what does it matter? as long as my vassals believe I am the one with power, I have power. and I make sure they never forget.

I tried this with medium crown authority and everyone got unhappy because I revoked a title. I'd been at war with this guy for two years for a war he declared, put him in prison and yeah. Is there some other requisite you have to meet?

I don't think you can revoke their title without penalty if it's the only one they have. If a guy owns more than one province, you can take away one of them, but any more than that and everyone will hate you. They don't like it when you start turning your vassals from landed nobility into beggars.

Oh my god, Hungary is so boned.

First, there was Bohemia trying to take over Hungary. Then, every single vassal of Hungary (including me) decided to depose of the leader who sucks. We win during the war with Bohemia... then, the new leader "dies to rabble" and now the new king is ALSO hated by everyone, and I fully expect another war to dispose of him...

...You know, I think I prefer the HRE again. I may go back to them if this continues...

Edit: Yep, the war started. Time to go to the HRE. Screw Hungary.

Well, this guy had two titles, and I think I got a penalty for revoking the first one IIRC. That makes sense though, it's just the tool tip doesn't say anything about that. It implied It was just good to go. Is that a temporary or a pemanent opinion hit?

Remember when I said my heir sucked? Well, he sucked even worse than I thought. ALL BUT ONE (a lowly baron) OF MY VASSALS ARE IN NEGATIVE RELATIONS. I hope he dies very quickly. Come on, don't live to 60 like your fathers, man, die at 40 PLEASE.

Also, Hungary is at war with itself again. This is the fourth time, jesus christ just pick a ruler already.

1. Gifts.
2. Release a prisoner occasionally.
3. Elective succession can also be very helpful, and frankly it's the best succession system anyway, since you won't get stuck with asshats (unless you really get screwed by your vassals, but that's why I just horde voting titles).
