I love the new plot/ambition system. Leads to situations such as my cousin Donal mac Malachy Ua Brian, (who has a crazy awesome diplo score of 22 and is thus indispensible) being the target of an assassination plot by another cousin, because he was third in line for the Ducal title. Until I changed from Gavelkind to Primogeniture, and the 1st in line had a son. Now he's a distant shot at best, but he's crafting his own plot to oust me and claim the title himself. I can't just kill him because that diplo score is so awesome. So I task my spymaster with keeping an eye out for plots in my court, which frequently turn up his plot. I force him to ixnay on the sassination-ay, and keep using his silver tongue to further my plots. In a bold move, I even made him my Cupbearer, to improve his opinion of me and hopefully dissuade his plots. I'm hoping that this could potentially trigger an event where he goes "Hmm...I want to kill this guy, and he made me his personal bartender. Yeah, this is too fucking easy." 

Finally, to shut him up, I made him Lord Mayor of Ormond. Now he's got a 25% chance to rebel, although if he does it'll be with mostly city levies, which I'll mow down. Oh what a tangled web we weave...

I played this a bit, its a bit more complicated than I expected, haha.  I wasn't sure what I was doing, and I appear to have picked a bastard son as my character so I can't seem to continue my dynasty through him.  I wasn't sure what to do, but then when randomly clicking through screens I found that he had a Nephew with the same name is I do in real life.

I decided to try to put all my efforts into increasing my nephews power.  I hooked him up with a princess (although shes only 14, ew), and made him my spymaster.

I'm not entirely sure how succession works, but I might have to kill off another nephew if I want him to inherit  my lands.

If you have a nephew you're safe then. You most likely have a gravelkind succession, which distributes all your wealth to 3 of your successors equaly (ala Frankish Empire), which is why you should choose another one, Elective and Primogeniture are the best, but pick Elective only if you're the only Duke, otherwise shit might hit the fan, because somebody from other dynasty might be elected. Primogeniture makes your oldest son inherit.

Ah, right, and how do I ensure that the illegitimate holders of the province about to be added to my personal demesme can not defeat me in battle? The army sizes available seem to be about equal...

by the way... what should I do if I get a ruler of wrong religion/culture? it seems the heir inherited russian culture and orthodox religion from his mother, and my vassals didn't like that much...  I lost almost all my english vassals ( essex/norfolx was reconquered) and normandy. I managed to imprison everyone in the kingdom of jerusalem and keep that however, so I made it my primary title. problem is, most of my soldiers still spawn in my demesne in england...

Hah, I just dissected the HRE along with various other minors in CK+ and declared independence. Bad thing: The HRE is still frighteningly huge... and I'm in the De jure kingdom of Germany, which the emperor holds. Crap.

Edit: Trolololol. I'm swearing fealty to Hungry instead of the HRE just before the truce wears out. So if they want my land back, they're going to have to fight a long and bloody war with someone equal to their strength. Hehehe, I'm such a dick.

I crusaded and took Jerusalem, and in a fit of crazy I thought "Hey, I should make all these guys lord mayors for extra income!"

Cue their courts filling with Muslims and their heirs all being Muslim, even in some of the counties where they already converted to Catholic.

In one case a religion and culture converted province (Welsh and Catholic now) got inherited by a Shiite guy, who promptly rebelled for religious reasons followed quickly by a revolt that ate his army and started sieging his province. By the time my army arrived from England (most of the other provinces in Jerusalem were still Muslim and suffering the religious penalty, so no troops there yet) the revolt had already taken over the province and I just ended the rebellion, rushed the castle and other holdings that only had like 20 guys in each, and imprisoned the new guy. Revoked his title, had him executed for good measure, and gave the title to some random Welsh guy in my court with 14 stewardship.

Now every couple years one of the mayors bumps off with a Muslim heir and I'm putting down a rebellion. I guess eventually I'll run out of Muslim courtiers in the counties.

I am completely new to CK series and I have been watching tutorial videos on YouTube. Is one of the counties in Ireland the best option to start with for someone like me?

Ireland is generally a pretty easy place to start. You might also consider the duchy of apulia- you're the strongest force in southern Italy by far, and the HRE won't really bother you.

Since they added the Kingdom of Bavaria to the game, another good place is... Bavaria. You can get used to being a vassal, explanding inside a kingdom/empire, plotting and ambitions, and forming Kingdoms and fights for independence. Plus, you start as a rather large duke, at least in terms of vassals.

Man, trying to play a heretic single-province count is hard.

I had intended to spread the Fraticelli faith far and wide, but alas, all it really served to do was make things harder to me.

I finally had to capitulate to my liege's demands of conversion when forced with the route to a no-win war (and much reloading to see if it was avoidable).

The Fraticelli church will live on regardless. I hope.
