Oh, and the Mongols came.
Oh dear sweet lord Jesus babies. What a monster.

Anyway, I think I've noticed something interesting: Savescumming does NOT reset the chance on events, or at the very least event chains. I had an event with 20% chance, and even though I savescummed multiple times, I always hit the 20% chance. Heck, even picking the other option, which is also 20%, I also hit the 20%! I literally had to modify files and set the chance to 0% to fix it, so I don't think anybody who made the mod I'm using made a mistake writing an event.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Are you talking about the dragon event for GoT? Because that's not supposed even be included yet because it's not finished.

Mother of God. CK2 75% off on Steam. It's practically on sale 24/7 now. I almost regret pre-ordering it full price.

No, it's a Chess event in a mod in The Prince and the Thane.

Dammit, I got it not very long ago at 50%! Oh well. :P

Maybe it's a bug then? I'm pretty certain I've reloaded and had the same event fire with different results before with ck2. On the other hand there certainly are games which use a random seed which isn't reset with every reload.

I bought it at -50% hours before it switched to -75% :P
I am not angry only because it is still worth what I paid for it.

anyway, for my first game I decided to do something easy and play william the conqueror.
after a slightly bloody war ( I thought it was very bloody, but I had to reconsider later), I am king of england, and most of southern england is in the hands of my sons. There is a little expansion in wales, but otherwise I am content with what I have, and instead wait for the "recently conquered" modifiers to expire.

New king, new missions : crusades start!
I assemble a 6000 men army, and together with my vassal in normandy, who crusaded independently, we sailed to the holy land. by far the biggest crusading army.

we got annihilated so hard that it isn't even funny. the muslims had stacks of 12k soldiers!

and so I plotted my revenge. I built new castles, and expanded the ones I already had. I nurtured my vassals, and after my king dies and the throne is inherited by his grandson ( that guy died older than 70!), a new crusade starts! this time, I can muster 15k-20k soldiers, with the help of holy orders. sadly, the enemies have double their previous army too. but the other crusaders are also stronger, and we can wear the enemy down. the army dies fairly quickly, but I summon another. and another. and then mercenaries, holy orders again and so on.This despite my vassals fighting each other for the silliest reasons, robbing me of many precious men. after years of strenuous fighting, we finally manage to conquer Jerusalem and acre, under the lead of my king. other crusaders free other provinces too and the caliph is forced to surrender.

Long story short, I am king of jerusalem now.
and my third son, still unlanded, is going to have a very pleasant surprise... I can't keep a big demesne , so I'll give most of the land to vassals. except for Jerusalem, which I'll keep.

the cities and castles there are MUCH better than anything in europe! I won't get many taxes from my vassals, but soldiers will be plenty.

fun game!

Hmm, have you ever saved and reloaded in the middle of a chain of related events?

Start off with a duchy in Ireland. Make sure your duke is Irish if you customize him, that way the Irish counts and barons and such won't hate you.

Learn the game that way. :D
I second this. Ireland seems to be Easy Mode. Started a game as the Duke of Munster, now on my 3rd ruler and I've added the Duchy of Leinster to my demesne. One more duchy (and its attendant counties), and I can forge the crown of Eire. The rest of Ireland seems to fragment into individual counties quite readily, making them easy pickings. Fabricate claims, nom up one county. Use that to create or usurp a claim on the duchy its in, then use that claim to either declare war on the existing duke, or convince the de jure vassals to swear fealty.

Might be a dumb question, but can you change the primary holding type of a county? (for example, from a town to a castle). Ormond is a Grand City rather than a country, so I regularly get the wrong government type penalty.

So apparently a Mercenary company is trying to conduct an invasion of England, I don't think they have gotten anywhere but still... wow I didn't know they could do that.

If you can no longer pay them, they will either dismiss themselves or start an invasion for your highest title. They usually fail though.

The thing is England wasn't at war with anybody, and my King has enough troops to do anything without mercs. (And even if he did hire them I don't see how he could of ran out of money for them)

Edit: Hell they haven't even been to England at any point, they are off in France somewhere.

Of course I could be talking out my ass due to the shitty weather around here but STILL.

You either have to build a new castle in the county, or (more cheaply) revoke the title of an existing baron. Then just give away the city title to some schmuck.

This is apparently 75% off at steam. I feel like I should give it a try, how steep is the learning cliff?

EDIT: Are the dlc any good? What do they do?

Oh, it's COMPLETELY worth it. I bought it at full price and that was still well worth it.

The learning curve isn't steep if you start off with a larger power. Starting with one-province counts and whatnot can be quite difficult, but that's more of a challenge thing you can do after you've played for a while.

As for the DLC... I wouldn't really recommend any of them so far, unless you just want to throw more money at Paradox, which certainly isn't a bad thing. The ruler creator is kind of neat, but not really useful, and the music pack is decent but it doesn't do a lot to increase the variety (better to just insert your own music or community music mod - or do what I do and just leave Pandora on in the background with a 'Greensleeves' station or somesuch, since that'll be period-appropriate).

The upcoming Sword of Islam DLC, on the other hand, looks really interesting and seems well worth the extra bucks.

I don't know about the learning cliff, it was easy for me, but I've played CK1 so it's hard, but it's very well damned worth it.

You can skip the DLC, there's one comming that will let you play as muslims, but it's only necessary if you actualy want to play as them, the rest of the features in the dlc will also be in the patch.
