Hmm... there is this religion mod Ilmatar, on Steam workshop where female rulers can take consorts, male versions of concubines.

I've jerryrigged it so that it works under Enatic Succession laws OR while matrilineally married.  Mostly cause the religion itself is feature bare compared to CK2+ pagan religions.  Options from it seems to lack descriptions too.  I think I have all the bases covered with it, maybe.

It does a few more things like auto-forcing patriarchially married female rulers/heirs/pretenders/claiments back to matrilineal marriage if they are under Enatic/Enatic_Cognatic, but those are restrictions I added myself.  Also I guess it has its own thing for births.

No balance at all to it yet...  Where AI would decide how likely they are to do this and what not after conditions are met.  They just do it.

(Ilmatar from Steam Workshop is normally incompatible with CK2+)

EDIT: Apparently, it is mostly event based.  Consorts are lovers, but get events and the likes as if they were consorts.  (You get to choose who the father is when you get preg.  I might pick up one of those true father mods and see what that is actually about, heh.)

In the year 853, Emperor Mendune has just reclaimed Poland from his synchophant brother Sabe.  Sabe is a certified gregarious lunatic, indulging in homosexual hedonism and possessing an astounding martial and stewardship score.  He does have syphallus, and this is the main reason he wasn't the primary inheritor, but even his worst stat - learning, is considered competent.

Emperor Mendune faces greater than average resistence all around him.  His father reformed the Romuvan faith and created the empire.  His father also removed the multiple slavic land holders in the realm.  To the north and east lies Rus, weakened but allied with the Reformed Tenghrians to the somewhat distant southeast, about Geogia and behind.  The kingdom of ruthenia is occupied by three allied high chiefs, who like to string along countless tribes into their wars; resulting in numbers that can rival Wendia's own armies.

To the direct west is the last of the Slavs in Germany - they booted out a divided christian state and rule ackwardly from the leftover castles.  They are allied with every single slavic nation, bulgaria, croatia, pannonia, and the high chiefdom of obertio.  Together they can only be stopped wth the help of the newly formed holy order of Penakus.

Further west lies the fractured Holy Roman Empire, a myriad of colors on the geopolitical map.  Bavaria stands the strongest, followed by aquintaine and then middle francia.  The rest are too insiginificat to be worthy of the true title of king, though some cling to the name as if they rule like one.  Svijord, giving up on its dreams of conquering the mainland baltic coastline, has turned its attention to Frisia and brittany, taking its lands with a losse alliance from Danmark, who themselves are slowly carving into the outer edge of scandanavia and England.

The muzzies to the west and east remain intact and stagnant, although several satellite states exist on the peripherals, shifting power and jousting the pagans and the reformed tenghri respectively.  The strongest amoung the is the established kingdom of armenia, which has been soveign for almost as long as the game has been played.

Ironically, even though the christian world is in chaos, moral authority has never been stronger, as each kingdom needcs the pope more than usual, and kowtows to him.  And oc, nobody is strong enough to resist him and establish the antipope since the last one was dethroned and the empire crumbled.

Mendune is sending his spy over to his bother, watching for a chance to smash his hold on his three duchies . . .  He plots his next move, but nowhere are there easy targets that are profitable . . . unless one counts finland.  Maybe he would be best served fuedalizing his homelands now, saving his monies for the expenses.

pedit:  pannonia dowed me with a force just 0ver 10k troops, including allies.  Not even the holy order could stop them due to geographical buggery.  I ended up dropping my tribal organization and called every single army my empire could field ever against them.  That has got to be the most fun Ive ever had in a war, calling all the independently moving peons to swarm over the mountains into pannonia and siege everything.  And now, oc we have to take our vengence and dow them for juicy lands . . .

In the few short years that followed his ascention up to the throne, the barbarian emperor saw his pannonian rivals take most of what was by tradition his.  Raising his army, Mendune ignored the vikings as they conquers the weakest parts of europe and debated whether to unit his rightful lands or spitefully plunge into the heart of pannonia.  ultimately he decided that taking the regionally important brenddenburg was more important.  It would serve as a launchpad for future attacks.

Europe began to languish, and the Italians took some advantage of the power vacuum.

Well, my next ruled actually turned out not being a woman because my king had another son who took the throne at age 15 after his father died at age 75! Said son then finished taking control of as much as Scandinavia as he could, finally holding 81% and creating the empire proper! He then promptly vassalized the duke of Denmark, who held the rest of the empire! Jihads are being called in response to recent crusades(1st crusade for Aquitaine failed. 2nd crusade for Jerusalem succeeded.).The Shia caliph is still around, and has actually pushed his way from North Africa all the way through the Iberian peninsula and now has taken nearly a quarter of Francia! Although the Sunni's Jihads haven't gone anywhere the Shia are starting to worry me, as the Shia Caliph controls 25,000 in levies, is rich, and even bounced back from 80% decadence all the way down to 0%. My Great Holy War for Germany has unfortunately failed thanks to a mixture of my cockiness and stupidity, as well as that of my AI allies. Hope is not all lost though, for I have taken nearly a third of England, over half of Ireland (which I now own as "Irland"), and half of Wales. MA is back at 68%. My current ruler, unfortunately is having succession troubles yet again, as both him and his heir are maimed (I let him lead one battle Thor Damn it!), and my backup son is an imbecile, as was his (now suspiciously dead ;)) child. I've switched focus to seduction have successfully conceived 2 bastards(yet to be born). I'm continuing to seduce women, of course, for safety's sake. I plan to acknowledge the children, but not actually legitimize them unless they reach 12 before my death. Otherwise, I'll just tough it out as my decent, although maimed heir, then take control of his son who's shaping up well. I'm also getting nice health bonuses from romantic retreats and my hunting dog. I'm also in the process of creating the Jomsvikings (I hold Stettin personally with a free holding in the province). I just need to wait for the event to fire.

Speaking of the Jomsvikings, if I give them land in a province to build a castle, do all of those contribute toward the troops I raise from them? Is it also possible to grant them castles voluntarily? I want to maximize their strength so that I have a very powerful holy order capable of easily crushing 2 Christian orders.

Ther 'holy order' troops and their 'landed troops' are kept seperately.  The troops that are granted by holdings are used for their private wars or to aid allies.  The stuff you hire apparently waxes and wanes in accordence to their religion's moral authority and their combat losses.

If you gave them land they would have more money and you could attack them while they were hired out to avoid the 8-10k mess and vassalize them.

But giving them more baonies would probs create anemity between the order and the county/duke overseeing them.
But it would also give them more money.

pedit: they don't require good land to have quality troops, much like the pope doesnt need 'good land' to get his money.  Still helps (and the pope does), but they get their holy troops from recruiting done offscreen and the pope gets his from taxes.

Okay. If I vassalize them, do I get to raise their personal troops as well(by raising vassal levies)? It shouldn't be that hard to keep a good relation with them if I make sure that they are lead by one of my family members and keep them bribed and increase relations.

Yea, you get a portion of their personal levies by vassalizing them, either by 'offering vassalization' or by granting them land you them claim, forcing them under you.

When you do fief them, you also can call upon them for a fraction of the price, whether its measured in gold or piety.  kind of op that way.

Emperor Mendune lived a relatively modest tribal life, not even living in what the western world would call 'civilized'.  He passed his throne onto his grandson Pisskop II.  Pisskop was in every way more capable than his father, from age to abilities.  Pisskop, starting in 880, began a 55 year reign until his death at the age of 70.  Conquest after conquest, holy war after holy war, Emperor Pisskop earned his name 'The Sword of Penkunas'.  In his time he was perhaps matched in tenacity by the son of the Bavarian King, Alfried 'The Hammer'.

The Hammer was a veteran of at least as many wars as The Sword.  Their common foe was pannonia, and they took turns warring with the aggressive state.  The Hammer may not have won every war he fought; but he brought Bavaria into the height of its power.  He earned his name after crushing the Reformed Tenghrian Holy War for his state, then crushing the vikings who had dug their heels into lower Germany.  With a maximum army just under 14k, he was at least a match for the reforming Wendish Empire.

During the reign of Pisskop The Sword, all of non-viking scandinavia saw annexation.  Upper Germany was added into the fold, and the Chosen of Penkunas bowed to his superior ability to guide the faith.  Even his family came to see him as the patriarch of the dynasty; so great were his abilities.
Emperor Pisskop The Sword mastered the art of diplomacy by the age of 30, and then attained competence with the blade soon after.  He then, somehow, obtained 6 copies of the Necromomicon, and likewise had 12 servants die after his death.  His influence is a lasting cultural one, as the capital holding skyrocketed in legal advances due to his dickery.
Though The Sword never had to face The Hammer in combat, he achieved every other dream of his.  He bwegan the transition from tribal living to feudal economy.  It was a hard road that cost him  a third of his viable army, but he managed still.

After his departing his son took the Bilkes took the throne.  His wife had had a child with every man in the court except Bilkes, it seemed.  Bilkes had 4 male children who bore his name, and only the 2 youngest held any promise.  Divorcing his whore of a wife, Bilkes remarried a nice genius girl and looked to the head of his religion as she called a holy war for Bavarian-held-Germany.
The war was brutal, with the odds shifting back and forth over the 14 year war.  Ultimatly, however, an aged Hammer won out, and Emperor Bilkes wisely turned elsewhere . . .  Though before dying The Hammer finally declared war on Wendia.  With his army of 8k and growing, he is poised to take Bohemia from an exhauted empire that can only muster 5k troops.

In the last 100 or so years, Christain Europe has consolidated.  There are only 4 or so players now, each with enough power to consider before marching to war.  Middle France took Aquitaine and most of Italy's French holdings, and The Duke of Pontan has claimed the Kingdom of France.  Bavaria grew under the rule of The Hammer, and Italy lost it Sicilian-Byzantine holdings to the Duke of Salerno.  An ambitious adventurer has claimed half of the duchy of Tunis even!  The northern half of Europe is still if loose pagan control, and many of the countries are fully converted to norse. slavic, or romuvan.  England was freed from the encroaching Swedes and Danmarkians, and is a jumble still.
Its been my experience that the country of India doesn't ever consolidate very well, but this game both India and Mali are pretty united, with 3 kingdoms in India and only the last holdouts in the still-paga Africa.  Armenia fell to the Tenghris and the Cali of the Persian Empire, and The Tenghris themselves share a huge portion of the map starting in Georgia and extending north and east to the map edge.  They've done a fair job expanding, even.
Rus has taken most of what Ruthenia I havent, and I havent been too interested in taking from that largely passive kingdom.

Every single Crusade-level war that has been called has been lost.  That includes 2 from Romuva, 2 from Tenghri, and 3 from the Christians.  And 1 from the Muzzies.  The Pope actually called his last one during our crusade on Germany!  We would have won that but we didn't get coordinated well enough.  Ill never get why the ai sometimes doesn't assist when it can win.  Even though the enemy ai knows when one of our soldiers has gas and they can exploit it to win from across the map.

hunh.  I just saw a catholic crusade where nobody above the Duke Ranking joined.  There is the King of Aquintain, France, Middle France, Bavaria, Italy, Scottland and the excommunicated kilng of Wales (wales, of all things).

Not one king hopped aboard the train; the crusade was doomed to fail.

Had that happen in one of my Scotland games. I was the sole king to join in a Crusade for some little place near Jerusalem (forgot where), everyone else was a Duke or Count tier title. After I saw just how few soldiers were going to show up I just decided to stay at home and pretend I'd never joined the Crusade. To hell with fighting the Caliph without a few big allies to help me out there when I'm tiny myself.

Its a thing.  Sometimes I go over just to get the crusader badge.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It looks so small on this map, but its soo huge in the game.  Its an unweildly blob with a lot of dramas and kings trying to 1up me in election/intrique/independence claiming/fucking up de_jure neatness.

Its 994, Ive got a solid, 34 yrold ruler who is a genius and has a genius heir, and Ive got an alliance with the reformed Tenghris that I keep marrying into and from.  Bavaria is the gateway that I havent toppled yet because Im still trying to reform the last of my permanent settlements, and I keep finding stupid ways to spend my moneys.

Yeah. We had a Crusade for Lollard Sweden that literally only consisted of me (Irish Byzantium) and the Papacy. I had to withdraw to fight off a Seljuk threat, and the Pope couldn't fight off the angry Swedes alone, so the crusade failed.

My Norse game is going well.

Sadly the decision to recreate Rome seems to be bugged in this playthrough, I converted to Christianity, tried to reform it and never got the pop up telling me it changed or the pallete/name swap for the empire, nor did I get the trait. Waited a year and a half then just reconverted to Germanic.

Italy is rapidly being devoured by my voracious vassals, as is Africa and Brittany. My vassal kings have butchered the northern coastline of Africa, and the Kind of Perm now hols territory that borders Mali. The Lord Mayor of Genoa snatched the Duchy of Lombardy from the Lombards, and I have claimed most of Bavaria for the Empire.

The Franks are fractured into dozens of fragments by succession wars and heresies. In time I will devour them all and bind Europe under the united rule of the Norsemen.

My biggest issue now is vassal management, without Imperial Administration I am struggling to accommodate the various Dukes, Counts and Kings under my rule. If I can raise crown authority enough I should be able to stumble on over the next few lives until I hit Absolute Crown Authority and implement the imperial governance.
