and time spent on converters is time not spent on content

I dunno. I think I would have gotten more enjoyment out of a converter then I have out of DW.

In case someone hasn't heard, Crusader Kings 2 has been pushed back to 14 February. They say it was a marketing move.

Imma get it. Even though I know it'll probably be laughably, frustratingly broken for six months after release, I'm planning to get it at launch or soon after. I luv LUV LOOOOOOVE me some CK. I'm praying it comes with a built-in exporter to EU3: DW (or HttT) so that my massively entrenched dynasty can continue to pull the strings of Europe (I exported a family tree one time from a 1066-1400 game...something like 85% of all rulers were either members of the dynasty or no further than 2nd cousins away).
It looks like there is not going to be a converter :(.

I have logged over 50 hours of gameplay on CKII and I can say that this is going to be their best release ever. Normally they would have released the game in the state it was 5 months ago but they took the extra time and really spent it on making the game great. I think this is a new philosophy and I really hope it pays off financially for them to allow them to do the same with other games.

CK2 will be the best thing ever. (Right after DF's next version :p )

A shame that it was pushed back, but hopefully it will be better in the long run.

Their marketing people need an extra dose of grey matter.  They should have figured this out months ago, and thus avoid irritating their fans.  Granted, Paradox fans are used to getting abused, but the little bits pile up.

They probably needed this little bit of abuse for it to feel normal, because by all accounts the game is going to be one of the most polished paradox releases ever.

I have really high hopes for CK2. And for any Song of Ice and Fire mods that come out down the road for it. Every impression I've read has mentioned the high level of stability and relative bug-less-ness, which is pretty impressive coming from Paradox. They make so many of my favorite games, but I've always equated Paradox with buggy releases.

Either way, very excited.

They've taken like 8 extra months to really polish this one, though. If it's more than averagely buggy on release, I'm going to be very disappointed in Paradox. Well, at least their work ethos.

Beyond the bugs, I'll be curious to see if it still has WTF moments like the Abbasids conquering part of Scotland and holding onto it for 100 years. Or the Marinids winding up Catholic.

Some random thoughts that didn't make it into the preview:
[...]
13) I had a great game as Anglo-Saxon England. But within 50 years, my ruling dynasty was Italian (we were still the descendents of Harold Godwinson, we just spoke Italian). And after another 50 years, London, Kent, and Wessex were Italian, too. Then my heir got tutored by an Abyssinian Monophysite (the former Queen mother). He became a monophysite, and since we was a brilliant diplomat, most of his vassals followed suit. It took 200 years, but England had become the land of Italian Orthodox heretics. Interestingly, the Irish and Welsh counties embraced it sooner than the Scots and Italian counties.

If you read the whole thread he explains some more about what happened :D

Things I noticed from skimming that thread:

1. Heresies (if unchecked) can apparently become a major religion in their own right. Monophysitism, Catharism, Lollardism, etc.
2. You can raise up an Anti-Pope candidate.
3. You can create republic vassals (akin to the German Freistadt or the north Italian city-states).
4. You can imprison characters (disloyal vassals, wives, potential rival heirs, etc.) and also execute them.
5. You can ransom characters.
6. Revised HRE system more akin to that in EU3:HttT.
7. Potential pre-Hastings start date, with huge ramifications if William the Conqueror loses.
8. Disease in provinces can decimate an army and *spread* with the army.
9. Emperors can have kings as vassals (THANK YOU OH MERCIFUL LORD....my Aquitanian Empire really suffered from having to oversee 40+ dukes and having to parcel out ducal titles to my children instead of kingdoms. If Charlemagne could do it, so should I.)
10. The Holy orders (Hospitallers, Templars, Teutonic Knights) are hireable like mercenaries.

I am so filled with squee right now.  :D

Yup, pretty much. There are only four empires in vanilla, though; HRE, Byzans, and I believe either Shia and Sunni empires or an Arab and a Mongolia one. So you unfortunately can't create an empire wholly of your own unless you mod the game.

Aquitania wasn't in vanilla CK1 either, it was a Kingdom added in with the More Kingdoms mod. And then I got the "Emperor" trait through an event for about four of my 15 or so dynastic rulers. (really should have been an inheritable trait, subject to a certain Prestige and/or power threshhold).

But that could have been of use in my Russo-Byzantine game as well (where I was King of Lithuania, Rus, Khazaria, Mesopotamia, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Finland, Arabia, Egypt, etc. *and* Byzantine Emperor). Man, that was a fun one. Crushed the Mongols every time they popped up, and virtually eradicated the Islamic caliphates.
