I must be the only one who likes the Mediterranean faces. Not for any real-world accuracy or pleasant-lookingness, but they look damn awesome. And they bring a lot of variety to the game.

Oh don't get me wrong, I like variety. It also saves money in case of a Zombie Apocalypse DLC, as I'll already have the faces

I found as a whole the artwork in Legacy of Rome and associated DLCs (Mediterranean face packs) were pretty sub par. I like variety too, but man the guys, especially the bearded guys, look weird.   

Conversely I actually liked the Russian portrait pack which I know received a lot of criticism.

Eh, honestly I wouldn't recommend any face packs other than African unless the celtic one is actually good. Norse face pack is very ugly and not very necessary. Mediterranean is gross looking and unrealistic (All the italians, spaniards, and greeks I know look much more like vanilla faces, not to mention that european nobles shouldn't be tan at all). Russian is a bit ugly though not terrible.
Oh and mongolian is actually good imo, forgot about that one.

I like the Norse face pack, there are some epic beards in it! My only complaint would be that the female characters end up looking fairly similar.

Hm, there's still weird things with the west african/malian kingdom. You can put medium crowns laws, which you shouldn't as an unreformed pagan : it's written "you are not an unreformed pagan".

Succession is a complicated thing.  Be careful who you kill.  I captured and executed the King of Germany (Vassal to Emperor Benoit of Francia), just to see what would happen.

Inheritance happened.  In an instant Lotharingia and Odin knows what else went spinning into some incomprehensible labyrinth of dynastic ties and marriages and oh god what have I done.

Emperor Benoit now controls virtually everything from Poland to the Pyrenees, and about half of Italy, plus enclaves all over the map.  I'm real fucking scared right now because I'm in the middle of a war with him, conquering my way to Paderborn so I can save the waning Norse faith.  I'm going on 80 and if I die before this happens it's never gonna happen.

And now my war's all fucked up because I was running suppression on his forces to keep them from contesting my invasion, and apparently the new Emperor (Benoit died) is Skynet because the moment my troops are a day too far to get back in time like 25000 guys come out of the fog of war to rush my invasion site.

I guess I'm gonna have to reload the autosave (it's only april thankfully) and just camp the landing zone while I wait for my chancellor to fabricate a claim on Braunschweig and for my warscore to slowly tick up, and pray Ragnarr doesn't break a hip and die beforehand.

Yeah, the kingdoms of West Francia, Aquitaine, Lombardy, Lotharingia, East Francia, and Bavaria do seem to all be of the same family (Karling), and all seem to have close relations to eachother. So some really interesting inheritances can happen at times.

In the past three years, the emperor of francia revoked the duchies of my 3 kinsmen left in france, my kinsman on the throne of byzantium suffered a triple war from various vassals and got usurped off his throne(could have helped him, but I was too busy snatching duchies from his rebelling vassals),and my kinsman on that throne of spain (asturia, I think), who meanwhile had united almost the whole of it, is facing another triple war from claiming vassals right after he was utterly beaten in a holy war he started against the muslim quarter of spain (just sent him 700 gp but not sure that'll be enough),and my kinsman on the throne of tukerstan is facing a claim war from his only duke who controls 3 of the 4 counties left to turkestan (but he's the same religion as me and my neighbor, so I'll be able to help this one).

in other news, the huge persian empire on my doorstep somehow decided to convert to the shia religion, which is not helping at all since the huge arabian empire on the other bit of my doorstep is shia too, so they might stop fighting each other and turn their attention to me

and the abbasid empire finally came back from the west, wiped the remnant of myaphisite abyssinia and now controls almost the whole of egypt. luckily they are still sunni, hopefully that'll provoke some friction with the other neighbours.

and to top it all, for the first time in 200 years, my heir is an utter incompetent, despite elective monarchy (I had a total of 8 sons and daugther, and the only not-too-retarded one died in battle aged 19 )

so, yeah...what's the name of that other game again ? Dark Days Ahead ?

True, but on the other hand, at least they aren't all fugly as some other face-pack portraits.

Also, is it me, or do the Celtic pack children look REALLY creepy?

Yesterday I started another game in the old gods start date, as one of the counts in Iceland. Less than 10 years in the king of Bulgaria is now the emperor of Bulgaria and is eating the ERE. I'm glad I'm on the other side of the map from him.

Anyone tried the chief of Nantes ? I conquered Brittany (not that easy, with other catholic able to join against my invasion). I can't form the kingdom of Brittany, only the duchy/petty kingdom, because I'm not celtic  even though I was Norse, and am now a Norman.
Doing relatively good so far, grabbed a few counties each time West Francia exploded in little pieces. But I fear I'll have to convert to catholicism. So far, nobody attacked me, apart from a host and some rebel peasants, but nearly any catholic kingdoms could crush me. I hoped to get some alliances from the Norse in Scandinavia and GB, but Sudreyjar and Skotland turned catholic, Jorvik has been crushed by Wessex, Denmark has converted, Ostlandet was briefly catholic but imploded in little Norse counties. The only Norse kingdom left is Sweden, but it isn't the most powerful. So yeah, situation isn't bright for Norse. No way I can reform from Brittany, at best I could grab Zeeland and Trondelag, and it's already quite a stretch.
The only good thing is that the muslims are at Poitiers (again  ) so that might distract them.
