Ahah, never though of that. Do you care much though? Sure, the low stewardship hurt a bit, but I'd rather have incompetent fool for kinsmen that ambitious men with high intrigue and diplomacy.

I'm far enough ahead of other empires in my game that having powerful vassals is one of the few things keeping things interesting at this point. :)

One of the nice things about having  powerful norse vassals is that they do a lot of conquering on their own. My vassals conquered most of Spain and France without my help.

So you can bypass their reluctance to a marriage by inviting them to your court first?
The ruler of the court decides what happens to the courtiers.

I doubt it'd be moddable to do this, but I'd love it if you could, as a heresy, take the holy sites of your parent religion, and "reform" as the main religion, relegating the previously parent-religion as a heresy of you. :D

Would also be nice if heresies were a bit more flavourful, so playing a Druze moslem or Cathar christian was different than playing a Sunni or Catholic. :D

The mending the schism stuff makes catholicism a heresy of orthodoxy, so I imagine it would actually be fairly easy to do the second part of that. I have no idea if moving holy sites is a thing that can happen, but most heresies share holy sites with the parent religion anyway.

I've had dozens of my religious advisers try to convert me. Is there a point to converting? All I can foresee is the pope getting pissed off and everyone having a good reason to wage war with you.

Also, there doesn't seem to be much of a downside to having an antipope. It's like an automatic 100 relationship with the pope. Where is the risk?

Also, I think you get a malus to relations with the real pope and other catholics leaders.

What does reduced religious authority does anyway? Increase the chance of spawing heretics?

I think for my next game I'll have a Muslim Scotland wage Jihad across the British Isles.

Heresies pop up a lot more when religious authority is low,  In my current game I think there are more Lollards than there are Catholics. When moral authority is high religions spreads more quickly. I think it also has something to do with troop morale and whether or not a religious head can call jihads/crusades/great holy wars.

I noticed in my game that provinces within my realm that have been under my vassal's control for a while have all switched to norse, yet my own provinces are still stuck with whatever religion was in them when I conquered them (old norse and lollard). I can't get mine to convert yet everywhere else on the maps converts at a steady pace. I've tried sending my Seer to proselytize, but is there anything else I can do?

As far as I can tell, the answer lies in the law of numbers.  Basically, you only have one Seer.  But each of your vassals also has one Seer.  So if you're keeping your vassals small, with say only one or two counties apiece, then their Seer has nothing to do but convert their one province, while your Seer can only convert in one of your many provinces at a time.  If you add intermediary vassals (those who are both your vassal and have vassals of their own, dukes typically), then you've got more Seers in play, as your head vassals will also be trying to convert both the provinces they themselves own, and those of their vassals.

Basically, the best way to convert large numbers of provinces is with more vassals.

I also think provinces can convert without a seer, but that the event pop with a certain frequency by ruler and not by province. So one province vassal will have his province convert much quicker than one with a lot of provinces.

I must just be very unlucky. In 200 years my seers have converted 0 provinces of mine. In fact the only parts of my empire that aren't norse are my personal holdings and provinces that have been recently conquered.

Unrelated - I just fought a war with the Arabian Empire and one of their generals was the unlanded Orthodox Patriarch. Weird. He must have became their vassal when the Byzantine Empire fell.

In that case, yeah the "mend the great schism" stuff is pretty close to that, except for only catholicism/orthodoxy (so not exactly the same, but very similar), and it'd be (probably, the religious head thing might need some finagling) totally possible to mod in for heresies.

Raid and loot alot. Not sure if it is required but it might help to loot the settlement dry, ie complete the siege to get the protected gold.
