I am fairly confused as to why, suddenly I cannot appoint successors for my Bishop lands.  Anyone know what would need to change and/or where I can find the info for it?

Check your laws menu, it's one of the kingdom laws.

You saying there is another tab that I missed all this time?  I'm a count, just became a vassal of some minor queen...

You need free investiture to name bishops. Otherwise they are named by the Pope. You became vassal of someone else, so your lieges investiture law affects you now. Obviously she has papal investiture in effect, meaning the Pope names all the bishops in the realm.

I managed to get myself captured by muslims while trying to nab Sicily for a relative. I had no idea he was even in the army, durr. And the guy hates his guts too much for ransom.

I'm really enjoying watching battles and the tactics used. When I see this flank breaking, see these tactics being used against these, etc. etc. I just instantly visualize it in my head. It's great to see this Slow Advance breaking this flank and then pursue them out of the battlefield before striking into the rear of the enemy force my marshal has been holding his ground against in the centre.

EDIT: So, now that we've learned the basics, anyone up for some multiplayer? I'd love to play with you folks and not just the AI.

I finally get a courtier to press a claim against The Isles and the tool-tip said the (literal) bastard would become my vassal upon winning, but instead he just goes off on his own? What gives? I'm finally independent of the Scottish King but I'm stuck in a rut and can't expand anywhere. I've been trying to Fabricate Claims since the beginning of the game and even with 10% my chancellors have gotten nowhere.

Also, it seems they increased the prices of mercenaries on the latest patch.

Edit: Checking job_chancellor.txt, it's probably the 360 months base mean time combined with a few chancellor switches that's preventing Fabricate Claims from working.

I'd be up tor some multiplayer with you, if I can fit my European time with the rest of you. Do anyone know it there's still trouble for steam-users playing with non-steamers? I heard that has been the case for previous Paradox games.

My previous Paradox-Steam experience is limited to launching pirated EU3 as a non-steam game on it, so I can't really say. I hope not.

My timezone is GMT +2. I don't know much about hosting, but using Hamachi should be relatively simply. It gets kinda wonky with a lot of people sometimes, though. We'll see.

Everywhere you buy the game other than GamersGate gave the Steam version of the game, so you should be able to play with all of those fine. Playing with people who got it from GamersGate I'm not sure on.

Discrimination I tell you!  Discrimination!

But yea, I'm willing to try out a multiplayer game over the weekend if'n someone else has GamersGate version.  (I've never played multiplayer in a Paradox game before.)

There's a decent chance you will be able to play with people who have the Steam version, I just haven't heard (nor searched for) any information regarding it.

Most of the problems with steam vs not-steam has been because Steam versions have a different checksum.

I THINK if the checksums are the same, you should be golden. >w>

Oh right, now I have to change job_titles.txt back to the original (I made chancellor, steward and spymaster available to all females), or somehow convince everyone else to make identical changes. Curiously enough, changing it on the fly (going back to an older save) has no ill effects.

When doing so remeber to delete is_female = yes line from job events files, or you will not get any special actions like fabricate claim or tithe when female is assigned on the mission. :)

If they haven't already  :P

That and the Basque culture allow tag were some of the first things to go.
