Yeah, that'll happen. When the republic DLC first came out it was crazy easy to snowball out as a patrician and basically dominate your republic. So they introduced a whole bunch of things to try and balance things out. Part of it is that when someone else is the doge, they may decide to take some of your trade posts if you have significantly more than them. You can prevent it if you have very high stewardship or diplomacy, or just by making sure nobody else is ever the doge (which isn't hard if you've snowballed and have gotten obscenely rich).

Okay, so basically, it boils down to spending an obscene amount of money on campaign fund?

I also like how the election system let you escape liability for some wars. Failed in your embargo war, and you have to pay a thousand gold in reparation? No problem, just loose the election and let the next guy deal with it, before murdering him.

If I play my cards right, I could inherit the entire Holy Roman Empire because, apparently, the emperor's only child and daughter is in a count's court so he can't do shit about the marriage.

I also like the fact that everything is now part of a de jure empire. I just find it strange that I need the king title of Egypt when its not de jure of the Abyssinia Empire.

Are you sure the HRE changed its laws to something else than agnatic elective?

Well, that's swell. Just make sure to murder any sons the Emperor might have. Or the Emperor himself.

The problem with that is I'm in Abyssinia with no ports so yeah. If nothing else, maybe I can have the HRE as an ally or destabilize them.

And so what? Once you've got the might of the HRE behind you, it should be easy enough to carve a corridor along the Red Sea.

The problem is making sure everything won't collapse the first year. I'm both a heretic AND a foreigner plus short reign. I'll have to wait for the future emperor to come of age and murder my brother so he becomes duke and nominate him as heir. Maybe piss off my spymaster to kill myself then kill everything between me and the throne.

Well, if your heir is still a boy, you can get him a catholic preceptor to change his religion, and maybe his culture as well. Gregarious and diligent traits help the conversion chance IIRC, maybe zealous as well.

If you stockpile enough gold, you can create several Kingdoms (Lotharingia, Germany, maybe Italy and Burgundy), give them away and then transfer the most troublesome vassals to those new King. The huge relation ship bonus from handing out the title and vassals should be enough to make them love you, and they'll have to deal with the angry vassals themselves. Give the Kingdoms away to kinsmen, so you have the dinasty bonus but not the pretender malus. Plus it'll help your dynasty prestige.

That'll help a lot for the first years, and you'll have time to change your culture and religion before the next transition.

Be sure to keep good relations with the Pope as well, so you don't get excommunicated.

Also, if your plan calls for you to be vassal of the HRE for a while, I think there is a decision to change your culture and religion to your liege's, but it'll destroy your piety.

And if worst come to worst, you can grant independence to some of the worst vassals. Better to give away a few than having them support a pretender. You can vassalize them back once you've eased yourself into the HRE's throne anyway.

Alright! I just need to get murdered then I'm on the way to the HRE throne. Its hard to die when your a nice young mid-thirty beautiful queen. I need to piss everyone off except my electors. Hell, I even pissed off my spymaster to speed up my murder.

Edit. Also, the HRE is gavelkind.

You can try doing risky things like going on a hunt, and take control of an army in a province with an epidemic going on. Although I don't know if the last work if you're a queen.

Can't go on a hunt or lead an army as a female.
You could try pissing off the pope and getting excommunicated. As far as I know when you lose an excommunication war you abdicate the throne for your heir.
The depressed trait will also let you commit suicide whenever you want making it one of the best traits in the game.
You could try and education a vassal's child if they're sick. I believe sick people in your court have a chance to spread the infection.

Pay for assassins to go after someone who's really well protected. If the person finds out you sent assassins, they're likely to send some after you.
