Yes, generally the way to maintain an empire for over a thousand years is to be militarily incompetent...

Once my rule stabilizes, I can easily form Rome. Then I can just wait of the hordes to come, plus Aztecs.

The mighty Empire of Rome, besiege by barbarians from all sides. This can only end well.

Well this just made my weekend.  Megamod The Prince and the Thane (TPtT) is finally back:

For those not following, this used to be the must-play mod until Legacy of Rome essentially broke it.  Looks like idlib got it caught back up.

What is the point in banishing? Surely they can just continue whatever you banished them for from another court, safe from your influence?

It's usually more about claiming their titles rather than stopping them doing something. That said they're usually incapable of annoying you further when they've had all their titles stripped and are bumming around in a court somewhere. If they're an old female with no children they also run the risk of being memory managed - a fate worse than death in CK2.

All that said I usually don't bother banishing anyone. It's usually so much easier to just get a reason to imprison someone rather than taking that massive tyranny relationship hit. Imprisoning a troublesome vassal and slowly killing off their heirs is usually the easiest way to take back titles without using banishment.

Memory managed?
Also, can't they still plot to kill someone in your court from another court, and be successful at it, to boot?

Banishing is probably best used against vassals that could be troublesome in more direct ways than plotting.
and yes, titles. you aim for titles when you banish.

Characters will be deleted from memory to save CPU processing and save file size. It's generally female courtiers with no heirs, claims or titles that get deleted. It happens pretty rarely in the standard game but a lot of mods add events to kill off characters so they get deleted faster. The build of these useless characters is why you see a slow performance drop across many decades which many mistake as a memory leak.

They can still plot to kill you but the further away they are from your court the harder it is to convince people to join the plot. They'll have a much harder time trying to get good relations with your vassals to turn them against you. If they fled to a court outside of your culture or religion they'll also almost never be landed, forcing them into a state where they can't affect you.

I still prefer just imprisoning a pesky constantly plotting vassal. Unless they're extremely powerful it's usually easy enough to imprison them for plotting and throwing them in the dungeon which is basically a free (although sometimes slow) method of execution/control.

Just going to leave this here:
Code: [Select]
Songs of the Caliph: 9PVMP-Q6HKA-AX24V
Russian Unit Pack: ANM93-GBX73-NPQAW
African Portraits: HCZB7-VWNXX-QEIYB
Dynasty Shields: IYIVT-2VK6V-Q0BRE
Dynasty Shield II: HHBKX-LMWEV-C5FED
Mongols DLC: IY6P5-0DI3Z-RKQTG
African Unit Pack: 9T0ZV-8LGZT-TY9DC
Too much hassle to give them away individually.

Any tips for breaking up the HRE? I can take off one or two counties at a time when they have squabbles, but those are far and few between.
