I normally play on max speed all the time with lots of pauses when I need them. So I guess a multiplayer game would not be for me.

that is what I usually do too, but I found that it isn't such a big deal. at low speed settings, you don't need to pause that often. it is essential when, for example, your ruler dies and you need to see if the realm will hold or explode.  but for most situations, it is surviveable.
Of course everything happens slower, but you can talk to other players while you wait.

Yeah, dying rulers, important discussion of strategy or agreements, and declarations of war are the only real times things were always paused for when I played ck2 mp. Generally the speed is as fast as manageable without slowdown from lag, which is 3, with 1 or 2 for wars.

Question about republics: How will I know which land will I lose if I lose the Doge title?

There should be a circle-thingy up top that says "You will lose titles on succession!"

Hover over that and there should be a list that pops up.

Note: This only works if you -are- going to lose the election.

I'm fairly sure it's just the capital and everything de jure upwards from that. I don't think you lose any other counties than the capital.

That's nice to know. Anyone know how to bump up a duke level Republic to a King level republic?

Also, How else am I suppose to take the trade post other than plots?

It kinda saddens me that I can't wage war on other vassals of your liege to take the cities.

Somehow, one of my kin became a Doge of a Republic. Can I inherit it if my character lives long enough?

Feudal dynasties can't switch over to a republic dynasty without losing the game. That said, you should be able to inherit the title if you're of a higher rank (e.g king). However the republic will be "destroyed" and instead a feudal title (e.g. republic -> dukedom) will be granted. I have no idea if the title keeps seniority succession.

It's been a while since I've messed around with republican politics but I'm pretty sure that's how it works.
