So I have this landless courtier, he's got the Mjolnir in his possessions while I don't. How do I get him to not have it any more and me to have it? The only way I could think of so far is to give him a county, grant independence, and then raid it repeatedly.

You can inherit artefacts like you inherit money from landless and hairless characters, I think.

You at least inherit artefacts when heirless vassals die, I've inherited the Nibenungen-ring like that myself. But I don't know what the chances are. It might be lower than for your own death/successor.

You do inherit items from landless courtiers, but only if they don't have any relatives. But landless courtiers' items will be destroyed 50% of the time, last I checked.

It would be safer to try and get them via marriage inheritance.

Your best option is going to be inheriting it. Raiding artefacts takes ages and is unreliable and there's no other options available for it really, unless the bearer is in a Warrior Lodge and gives it to you as a gift when you start a legendary journey.

You just need to make sure all their family are dead then murder them. You should get Mjolnir, or at worst it goes back into the pool of artefacts that can be found by your councillors.

I made an unfortunate discovery. Since the African religion has animism as standard, and the +5% morale overrides all other troop bonuses you can get from things such as the unyielding nature (Which is my favourite. No downsides, and it allows you to stop everyone in your own territory), you're stuck with a rather shitty troop bonus and no way to improve it.

What happens when you imprison then banish a character with an artifact?
Apparently, the artifacts stay with the character.

My genius son has just decided he doesn't care to inherit an empire, and converted to Suomensko. Now he's a true believer and won't accept conversion demands. What do?

Gotta land them before you finally murder them, though. Drops the destruction rate from 50% to 5%.

Fuck that chess with death event. You might be young and healthy, but the game basically tells you to roll a die and die, if you don't get a six.

I agree. It doesn’t seem to take into account your combat prowess of you decide to fight death either.
