I love playing Navarra. It's every aspect of Crusader Kings on speed. Constant warfare, both with the bigger Christian kingdoms and the Muslims (or with the Muslims through the other Christians' wars) never letting your manpower replenish, and you have to constantly intrigue and meddle in the affairs of the rest of Europe to make sure you still have some guys backing you up, preferably one of the big guys, and in case of the preferable big guys making sure they aren't too busy with their internal wars to help you out. It's great.

Good god, what the heck. The Orthodox religion is getting a beating by heresy in my game, at only 46 Authority. A huge section of Russia is controlled by Iconoclast rulers, while the Byzantine Empire is being internally destabilized by Monophysite, Iconoclast, and Bogomilist heretics. Meanwhile, everyone else has small, tiny heresy problems that at most give people headaches. Us Orthodoxes? We get our asses kicked by heresy so hard that we plow straight through several walls. I'm pretty sure there's more Orthodox heretic counties than Orthodox counties.

Seriously, what the hell.

Huh, apparently there is a real possible negative effect of a assassination attempt: someone can publish proof that you tried to have someone else killed, and give you -30 relations with all of your vassals (enough to take you from almost no possible rebellions to tons of 50%'s), although it is extremely rare, as it has only happened to me once (and not when I was actually assassinating a vassal, but rather the child of a vassal who didn't join my empire like he was supposed to when the war to claim Norway ended).

On a different note, I paused the game to look at the ledger, and when I looked at my prestige, saw that I had exactly 20,000 prestige.

Yeah, they changed the results of assassinations so that each failed attempt that gets detected gives you a -10 relations hit to everyone. This stacks with itself. And if you did it against your liege, it gives them just cause to imprison you (which they probably will).

I'm a bit weirded out by the decadence system. I think it simply makes controlling a large kingdom as Muslims impossible. It's nice for smaller countries, but when you get big... you have to keep expanding to make sure you have enough land to give out to your 10 billion relatives, make sure those relatives aren't screwing up your decadence, and so on and so forth. It makes this crazy self destructing cycle. I haven't seen a single AI handle it properly too, it's like they're not even aware they're making themselves implode.

I think the system itself is fine, but the numbers might need some tweaking.

I find it pretty realistic.

I actually quite like it.  The thing is, you have to realize that they've also changed the rules from Christiandom that you're encouraged to be a homicidal tyrant. (Which as I pointed out earlier in the thread, is historically accurate for Islamic empires.)  Adult members of your dynasty, especially close members, need appropriately ranked landholding or to be in jail (The Golden Cage).

If one of your vassal's is getting too old, and has an adult son, there's no penalty to hurry sucession along via imprison/execute.  Even if they do revolt, you shouldn't have too much of a problem conquering them.  If you've raised your power to absolute (which as a Muslim, you don't need a vote for), you can even strip emirates/duchies so you can grant them to more deserving dynasty members.

It seems to work best if you don't give out any land to anyone in your dynasty except for one of your sons. Inviting nobles to your court so you can have many weak vassals seems to work out better, then you just imprison all your relatives that give you decadence, and either keep your sons tied up with council work, assassinate them, or just deal with the decadence gain they give you.

That's not really what I'm referring to though.

When I was the Sunni Muslim emperor of Britannia, the empire was just too big for any amount of land giving to relatives to reduce decadence. It was extremely bizarre because even if I gave every single one of my relatives 1 county each (your relatives still contribute decadence if they only hold a barony), and myself only with two counties, I'd still end up with +0.3 decadence per month. So I believe the size of the empire thing effect is just too severe if you want to be a large empire.

It wasn't really an issue when I was the Sunni king of Scotland, or the Sunni duke of York. Just when the empire got so big my decadence gain went through the roof.

And I noticed the same kept happening to the AI lands in the Middle East with their ginormous empires. They could never last.

That's why you kill everyone who isn't a son/contributes decadence. xD

Again... that's not what's happening. No one is contributing decadence. Just the size of the empire itself is the only thing that's causing massive decadence gain.

I don't know if it's a bug or what, but the moment I went from king to emperor, my decadence went up to +0.3 just from that.
