I see you are unfamiliar with Muslim polygamy :p? Muslims can have up to four wives, so emperors have the same wife prestige requirements as kings.
You're absolutely right, and yeah, emperors get the same prestige requirements as kings.

I formed the Spanish empire, although Muslim realms seem to prefer to be named after the dynasty, so it's the X empire, where X is the name of dynasty that starts in granada. I've very nearly finished pushing the HRE out of Spain, but it's all seeming a bit like too much effort now, I'm pretty much the most powerful person in Europe, and with the Muslim invasion CB that lets you conquer any kingdom that doesn't have your religion I could start nomming up some huge chunks of land right now and become all but unstoppable. But like I said it all feels like too much effort now, massive empires are a pain to manage, so I'm thinking about starting a new game as Scotland or something.

Played for the first time since the update. Ragequit after waiting for 30 years, and the reign of two leaders, for an assassination event to pop up while I had 200% Plot Power. Am I supposed to believe that the Earl of Breifne wasn't in a vulnerable position in all that time? Ironically, I got the event where a drunk blabs about the plot two times.

Event? No event pops up, you have to use the plot action in the intrigue window... The various plot actions become available once you reach plot power thresholds. The top one has like a 90% success chance at 100% plot power.

How many backers did you have? I haven't tried the new patch yet, but I imagine the number of co-conspirators is more important now.

Orthodox DLC is probably next.

I doubt it, or should I say, I hope not.  You can already play Orthodox for free without modding: It's part of the standard game.

I'd hate for DLC to disable something we already have.

Hey guys, I'm currently stumped with my current game and it seems to boil down to one question. Is there any advantage to being the defender in a war rather than attacking?

I started as Palermo (Shia just to be clear, only other Shia state of worth are the Fatimids) and I'm now Sicily and have all of the kingdom of sicily and a few duchies in Italy. Of course this now means I'm facing down both the HRE and the Byzantines who will both happily declare holy wars on my territory when not busy elsewhere. Of course, I can declare holy wars and such back against them, so considering that I know they'll declare war at some point is there any benefit to waiting instead of just attacking?

From what I can tell, if I'm on the defensive I stand to lose territory if I lose, and if I win (white peace since getting 100% warscore would probably be too difficult) I simply gain a truce for 10 years and I can't press the advantage and try to get something tangible from the victory without breaking the truce, and dismissing/regathering my armies from far away.
If I decide instead to attack, then I stand to gain territory if I win, and if I lose I simply lose I gain a truce which lets me rebuild and lose some prestige, piety and money depending on what type of war and how badly I lose, none of which is a big loss in my eyes.

The truce doesn't help much besides letting me replenish my armies because my expansion options are: swipe territory from the HRE (which is what I've been doing by taking advantage of their internal strife whenever possible) or declare a holy war for something overseas, which means I'm fighting either France for Corsica (HRE would probably jump in, no way I'd win), Croatia/Provence/Genoa (same problem), Byantines for something (I'd win by calling in the Fatimids but they could implode from decadence any moment now) or one of the two smaller (4-8 territory) Sunni states in north Africa, but the Almoravids (who are huge) might jump in.

For completeness sake here's most of the world map, I'm the Kalbids in southern Italy. The Almoravids hold Granada and such, and most of the west of the HRE is independent and mostly grouped into Lower Burgundy but all the independent states there are grey as well which is irritating.

No, the idea is that Western Feudal systems, as well as inheritance as it is, aren't that good for Eastern Europe. So people want them to flesh out Orthodoxy more, Russia, Anatolia, and Ethiopia.

I'd certainly be interested in a pack that gets into more detail in the Orthodox lands. And new events to model some of the controversies in the Patriarchate(s). It'd be really sweet if they could implement a way to opt to spread Nestorian Christianity to the hordes...they'd be less hostile to Orthodoxy, but you're also weakening the moral authority of the Patriarchy by allowing a potentially huge swath of Nestorianism.

Yes, but they're unlikely to get a DLC because that would require that vanilla gamers become unallowed to play as Orthodox, which would piss a lot of people of (including me). So if Orthodoxy ever gets fleshed out, it would probably (because I have enough belief in Paradox's sense of tact not to expect them to charge for it) be through patching, and not DLC.

Couldn't it be done such that non-DLC gets the vanilla Orthodoxy, and the DLC gets a lot more events and options and such?

You know, when I first got this game, I knew this game had problems with the Grim Reaper coming a bit too early.

I don't know, I think they would have done that with the Muslims if they thought it was a feasible solution.
