What, you mean like executing people and stuff? That only drops landed vassal relations, doesn't it?

Nope, everybody in your court as well (though I don't know about vassal's courts). I know this for certain because one of my starting strategies is imprisoning and exileing the local mayor and bishop ;)

I'm not a big fan of offing my wives, honestly. I enjoy playing characters that aren't murderous psychopaths.

So you hate dwarf fortress?

EDIT: Why would you play a game where you AREN'T a murderous psychopath??? passive-aggressive mass effect??? COD without shooting??? DF2012 without dwarves??? c'mon...

Dude. This attitude. It is completely unnecessary and not fun in any way. Lay it off.

I'm facing a horrible issue in my current game. The kingdom of Ireland has expanded to take over Brittany, Wales, 1/4 of England and 1/3 of Scotland. In the year of our Lord 1184, the Queen of Ireland died. In the year of our Lord 1185, out of the 46 counties of the Kingdom, only 6 were controlled by the King, and the other 40 were rebelling. Seeing as how I had about 4000 gold in the treasury, I hired ALL the mercenaries and squashed the rebellions and the succession crises. My issue... is what the hell do I do now? I have 46 counties under my control, so I am making absolutely no income. At the same time, EVERYONE in my court hates my guts. If I gave out any titles they would rebel. Am I just up shit creak without a paddle?

1. Pause the game.
2. Distribute ALL of those extra titles. Keep the richest for yourself. Give them away, in order of preference, to - people with the 'content' trait and high stewardship, people with the content trait, people with high stewardship who are unambitious and not envious, people who are unambitious and not envious.
3. You're now peachy.

Seriously, though, if you have that many extra titles, of COURSE everyone is going to hate you. Distributing them all to shiny new vassals will rectify the situation. The first lot you appoint *will* continue to hate you until you dole out the rest, because there's a huge negative modifier involved with having that many extra titles, but it won't matter because the game is paused. When you finish handing them out that negative modifier will have disappeared and they'll be in the green with you.

Also, yeah. Never keep that much land, just hand it out as you conquer. It's a pain in the butt to do it all at once.

Lesson of the day: When you're some nobody count, jockying for the position as king's heir, and your bff bishop confides in you about this great new religion he's forming....  DON'T DO IT

lord dullard, I think he might also have an huge tyranny modifier... he will have to create new nobles, like somebody else suggested. ( and, for the future, when vassals rebel he shouldn't annex them all. terrible idea.)

Annexing rebelling vassals is fine. You can revoke their titles without penalty because they're traitors and then give them away to content characters (or at least those with a better opinion of you).

For the record, ALWAYS create new nobles. I never, ever, ever give more titles to my existing vassals. That way if I ever do get rebellions, it's only versus a county or two instead of a huge duchy.

Of course, sometimes your vassals will manage to gather all those titles on their own, but there's no reason to encourage them.

Just conquered Perigrod, or somesuch.  I'm finally expanding!  Crown authority in the Kingdom of France is limited.  It's a county-eat-county world, really, and there's like this one duchess with numerous titles, I REALLY don't wanna cross her.  I'm preying on lone counties, and I'm hoping that the added territory will make me powerful enough to challenge, say, the Moors in Spain.

Because I still really want to Holy War them up.  Quite a number of the d'Auvergn family have been mastermind theologians, dutiful clerics, and such.  So I'm STILL roleplaying the heavily religious dynasty thing, now I'm slowly trying to gain more power.

Well, that's true. I generally don't often experience that problem (because of my aforementioned tendency to NEVER give titles away to existing vassals, it's almost always a terrible idea unless the vassal is your heir).

There are methods to counter even that eventuality, though. Namely, just keep the vassal imprisoned, revoke one title, and send a gift to their heir. Then wait for them to die. If you want to be even more sneaky about this and guarantee that their heir will like you better, grant the heir the same landed title you just took away form the vassal.

yes, I usually just let the rebellious dukes , counts or whatever rot in prison, until either they die, or my king dies.
the more rebellious dynasties can get 3 or 4 generations of rulers who spend most of their life in prison :P

keeping counts small can be a problem while crown authority is still low.
I have had vassals wage war among them, and against foreigners, enough to become almost as strong as me.

for example, the duke of normandy in my game as william the conqueror. at some point, he had the whole northern france, and could crusade on his own with power similar to that of most kingdoms ( of the time).
sadly, after the great rebellion which costed me england, he broke free, and refused to come back. due to inheritance and similar his power was greatly reduced, and now he is just a minor duke in northern france :( ( still independent however. nobody of my house shall bend to the french. and if they do, I'll conquer france.

I like giving extra titles to existing vassals I like. Sure, it's a terrible idea for when your current ruler dies, but pfft. Bros before a stable realm.

Honestly, playing CK without even a little bit of roleplaying seems pretty meh to me. I once ended up with an imbecile inheriting cos his daddy was a kind, charitable, just etc. guy who looooved him. Granted, his vassals loved him and he ended up as King of Africa, but whatever.

Ignored the Arabs huh? Yeah, the HRE could be in trouble unless the Kaiser calls in his allies. On a side note I don't think I've ever seen an entirely Islamic Spain, or seen Scotland get such a William Wallace hard-on and decide to take their war for FREEEEEDOOOOM all the way to Norway and France.
William Wallace is not in the game. Apparently Paradox didn't think one of the most important parts of Scottish history didn't deserve to be in the game. Scotland and England aren't even at war at the time period nor is there even rebels.

So Cata when did you graduate from Killjoke university? "Could that be a highlander joke? Nah, better correct him on his historical inaccuracy."

Completely agree, in my current game the son of the aforementioned Norwegian count who dabbled in catharism became a cynical, wroth, and cruel King of Norway who worked his ass off for the first half of his reign securing the duchies of iceland(via marriage), orkney, moray, and vestland for his indulgent wastrel of an heir.  After he labored tirelessly to raise Norwegian Crown Laws to High authority, he was finally able to institute primogeniture succession laws.

His heir, now the duke of iceland, and the now guaranteed future king of Norway revolted, outraged by the change in law.  Bjorn the Great, utterly disgusted by his son's disrespect and idiocy marched to iceland himself, captured his son and summarily executed him for treason.

What I really like about this game is that it lets you play "incorrectly" without losing.

Oh, I do that sort of stuff quite often too.

This game really caters to megalomaniacs.  :D

And, well... B12 probably has the highest concentration of megalomaniacs on the planet. Just sayin'.
