Puberty: How hard is it?
« on: August 19, 2010, 01:25:24 am »

I have just recently turned 16, and it feels as if my body is changing.

I have found stretch marks on my shoulders, pimples on my face and back, and feel strange sometimes, down there.

School is awkward and I can't fit in when it happens.

Was puberty hard for you guys?
Please help me!

It wasn't very tough on me, at least relative to everything else that was going on.

It was everything else that was tough.

It passes. Just try to think with your brain and not your dick. Many people I know failed that test in high school and they're still paying for it today. Acne for me was pretty bad, that was probably the worst of it. Don't worry about fitting in though, everyone around you is going through the same thing.

I'm 16 as well, and I'd have to say that the last year has been the hardest part so far. That being some sort of "Rage Phase" where I couldn't stand anything less than absolute perfection from everyone around me without exploding on them. This seems to have subsided over the past several months, and I am currently in a much more mellow state than I have experianced in many years. So try to keep your stress and hormones from crushing you into a state of anger, as impossible a task as that sounds.

Man, my puberty was relatively great, but kind of itchy. Also I was a lot more aggressive and started hanging out with douchebags. We've all matured since then, though, so no real worries. Just relax, take it all in stride, and don't do anything you might regret.

Just try to think with your brain and not your dick.

Thinking with your dick falls under "anything you might regret". Nenjin gives sage advice.

It may sound odd, but I actually have NO idea when I actually went through puberty.

Hmm... You know, this guy only has one post, but it is in the correct section. On the other hand, this very topic is the type of thing I could see a bot doing to advertize. On the other hand, he has an avatar, which I have yet to see in spambots. Not accusing anyone of anything, just saying I'm a bit suspicious untill I see another post.

The post itself seems rather harmless and I can't see any possible way this could turn into a flamewar.

Though the results could be used on another website for people to laugh at. That is the worst case scenario I can think of.

He also just registered a few minutes ago. Seems more likely he's someone's alt. Maybe he's one of those spambots that posts in a variety of topics, sneaking by prying eyes -- then edits his signature to include a link?

On topic, though: I'm 15 and am going through puberty too, fancy that. Aside from occasionally depressive states, puberty itself isn't terribly difficult. Though the effects it has on the people around you are an entirely different matter. In case you don't know already: people are jerks, especially in high-school.

I lurk a lot of forums :\

B12 is more mature then most so I posted here

I have a few questions about relationship advice or w/e but you guys seem to frown on that so I posted a more general topic. I move a lot so I don't really have any friends so i turned to the internet instead, since you guys are helpful. mostly I'm wondering how you deal with adolescence, not necessarily just puberty, (xD I should have made the title 'Puberty: How hard does it get?').

Mostly how do you deal with stuff like cracking voices and armpit hair? Acne cream doesn't really work too well for me, but it's not so bad.

Edit: for some reason my post got cut off so I fixed it.

Hord core, man. Hord core.

Also, never ask us for relationship advice. We've seen far too many romantic comedies.

Heh, cracking voices. Every time that happened (or happens) to me I tried to imitate the same kind of crack again ironically and laughed it off, which was customary in my friend circle. Seemed like the most natural thing to do. I mean cracks tend to sound pretty funny.

But yeah, I'm with Neonivek, I never really had a day when I thought: "Hey, I must be going puberty" I never noticed armpit hair growing or anything, it was all so gradual. The only thing was the voice really.

You didn't find all that new hair itchy? I'm mean, I'm genetically predisposed to hairlessness, but I was still like damn this is so cool.

Worst time of my life was when I was 13-15.

Whenever you finish learning something new, you're always eager to apply it and get overeager. Like say, if one of our friends here just learns about how complex numbers works, he'd be applying it everywhere, starting discussions about it and talking as if he's an expert on the topic. He makes a total douche of himself.

I felt puberty was sort of like that point where you learn to make friends, learn new swear words, find out there's porn on the internet. You learn about members of the opposite sex. You find out what people want, what makes you popular. And you become a douche. But so does everyone else you know.

You gain wisdom by making mistakes and learning from them. Well, puberty's the time when you'll be making the most mistakes in your life.
