It's far too uncivilized around here. I'm going to require a house or anything with a roof over my head. But, first and foremost, some protection from fire, judging by the behaviour of my governor. Well, actually, even housing would probably take too much time. Looking at those workers, they are primarily masons, and stone houses aren't exactly known for being built fast. After the jungle problem is solved, I shall tell Mr. Governor that I would appreciate some housing very much. Enough to owe him a favor or two.

Research a shield spell affecting an area large enough to comfortably sit down in, and some extra if possible. The shield primarily should not let through the elements - like fire or rain, with fire being the priority for now. Try to cast it if danger is imminent.

((Learning new spell schools with no aid has a 5% chance of success. If you have an NPC teacher or study aid [IE, Scrying for Idiots], it has a 25% chance. With a PC teacher or NPC+study aid, 50%. PC+study aid gives a 75% chance of success. Every level of teaching skill increases the chance by 5%.

NPCs gain levels based on chance, with no EXP remembered. To simplify things and reduce my rolls, I'll be faking statistics - 8 L1 farmers with a 10% chance to level up will come up as an 80% chance of one leveling up. 12 L1 farmers would have one level up, and a 20% chance of a second leveling up.

Carpentry/Masonry/Construction workers: Construction workers may use either stone or wood to build, as resources permit. Carpenters/masons may use only one resource, but they may also make furnature or crafts out of their resource.

Stone buildings take twice as long to build, but have three times the HP of a wooden structure.

Granaries and warehouses are functionally identical, but the name indicates which items are stored if there isn't enough space for everything. Storage space makes thieves far less likely to steal things, and prevents items from decaying in the jungle. Specialized buildings will have some storage of their own - Magic schools will store books, for example.))

Spoiler: Overmap (click to show/hide)

Evergod's Company:
{19} - The weather has been good since their arrival. Combined with the dancing doll, morale has increased for this turn, encouraging people to work harder and more cautiously. {Hidden Roll} The citizens began working to burn a swathe of jungle, and the blaze nearly spiraled out of control. Fortunately, the crates were carried out of the way in time, and the conflagration stopped on its own after a short time. Jungles aren't flammable enough.

Wolfchild {14} - Explore to the south
Saun leaves the area, deciding to look for something interesting. He discovers only jungle, but at least he isn't lost.
+1 EXP

Errol {6} - Use book to get a shield spell
Liz attempts to get a shield spell out of the book, but doesn't understand the text she finds. Undeterred, she works constantly at translating it for the next several days. {20} She finally succeeds, and realizes that it's an explanation for basic wizardry. She memorizes the passage of course, and now knows wizardy magic {9}, even though she didn't get that shield spell. {13} Somebody drags her away from the blaze.
Magic School learned: Wizardry - Converting mana into raw force, and shaping it.
+2 EXP

Jiharo {13} - Jerome dances, Kwinkle surveys a hex
Kwinkle carefully studies the jungle a short distance to the west. He finds nothing but jungle.
{12/11} - Jerome dances. People are amused, and become more vigilant.
+1 EXP

Ochita {5} - Survey Mountain
Ochita finds no interesting resources on the surface of the mountain. Further, sub-surface surveying is possible, but would require digging a mine.
+1 EXP

Knight Otu's Order:
{10} - The jungle's weather is strange. For days, the sky constantly looked as though it was about to begin raining. {16} - A speech boosts morale. Horray!
The farmers manage to clear enough space for nine of them to farm, which they then get ready for planting. The granary is finished, and work began on the town hall. The soldiers reports indicate no hostile creatures. {4/9} The herbilist is perplexed by the local herbs, but he learns a bit about local flora from Hailfire.
2 farmers reach L2
1 carpenter reaches L2
2 tools break
Knight Otu:
+1 EXP
+2 Orration

Hailfire {9/4} - Find herbs
Hailfire and the herbalist look around the construction sites for useable herbs. Hailfire, despite his knowledge of herbs being limited, recognizes some of the herbs as being similar to healing herbs, while the herbalist watches eerily.
+2 Healing Herbs
+1 EXP
+1 Herbalism

Kilakan {20} - Chop wood and try to train woodcutters
Kahn rapidly turns several trees into lumber, explaining to the awe-struck woodcutters how to swing the axe just right.
+7 wood added to city
Woodcutter trained to L2
+2 carpenter EXP
+1 teacher EXP
+2 EXP

I shall head to the North-east towards the unknown mountainous area, in search of hostile camps, caves, and other points of interest.

In a place this wild, there must be something dangerous, and since there's no wildlife I bet there's foul creatures hiding in the dark, and I'd better kill them now before they find us in our sleep.

MY AXE THIRSTS FOR BLOOD!!! RAHHHHHHH!!!
*crashes wantonly into the bushes, swinging at shadows and small animals.*

*once out of sight of the group he slows to a walking place and begins whistling a rather cheery tune.*

Progress on the fields and the town hall is slower than anticipated. That is not good. We'll need to do something about this. Chirlon thought as he penned his journal. At least, his mental journal, since he neglected to bring paper and ink. Though it might be better this way.

The Wortwitch, as the herbalist liked to be called ("Surely it beats Krautpicker, right?") had learned a little from helping the supposedly nameless woman with the bunny ears, but she is dismayed that she couldn't identify any plants herself, and eagerly accepts that she should try and learn more without having to focus on exportables.

The militia commander, possibly the closest to a grizzled veteran that Riverview could spare seemed to be impatient to talk about the defense of the site, but since the initial patrol did not turn up hostile wildlife, she agreed that hunting is important in the current situation.

-----

Chirlon casts Phantom Worker to help with clearing the fields. The farmers, woodcutters, and carpenters should continue their current work. The architect continues to oversee the carpenters.

The herbalist should study the local flora in depth.

The soldiers should hunt to complement the food production.

No, you get +2 Oration. I changed my mind partway through. Fixed the caravan counter.

I attempt to engage Saun the dragonkin in a little chat about mutual interests: cogs, springs and stuff like that. If he is not in a talking mood, venture to the same spot in the jungle I went to last time, perhaps I missed something interesting.

(Jerome's MP should have probably decreased to 11/12?)

Okay, I'm not sure what her name is/should be, but it's not that (it sounds ridiculous! :P

Really, I wouldn't mind if you guys came up with some sort of nickname for her as the game goes on.

-----

"Oooh, we're going hunting? Take me, take me! I can help, and lots of reagents are stuff out of dead thi--!"

As the alchemist runs towards Chirlon and the militia, her foot catches on an errant root; but instead of tripping, the stitches just above her ankle give way, leaving her foot behind, and
then she falls flat on her face when she misses her footing.

"Whoops, 'scuse me a moment."

-----

Accompany the hunting party while keeping an eye out for anything interesting (e.g. strange looking herbs), use spells to help out as necessary. If anyone gets hurt, patch them up; if we kill anything, collect any bits that seem like they'd be conductive to alchemy. I'm not just looking for things I recognize as being useful, but things that catch my eye- science is what you do when you don't know what the hell you're doing.  :P

(But, but... "supposedly nameless woman with the bunny ears" just flows off the tongue! :P)

Chirlon helps the woman up and towards her errant foot, apologizing that proper roads aren't quite a priority yet, though paths should come about naturally.

Noticing the lack of progress, Saun offers his help setting the jungle on fire

(I was actually referring to the turn post, where Nirur's using my username.  :P)

She laughs nervously as Chirlon helps her limp over to her foot. "No, no need to worry about me, Master; this sort of thing happens all the time, really. Especially with this humidity and all, and... Oh!" she suddenly strikes her palm, "That's right, I've been meaning to ask; you wouldn't mind me calling you master, would you? After all, you're the one who's runnin' things around here, right? And Master died a while back, so..."

Oooh, shiny! This book always surprises me and I have it for several years now. Now, to the experiments! I will need to test the limits of this new magic.

Draw a line of approximately 3m on the ground. Then, try to raise a very low and preferably shiny barrier of force. Light blue would be fun. Abort if it proves to be too draining.

"Hmph, that almost went bad... al'righty nah, we got us some work ta duh, you there, quarrymen start gettin us some stone, preferrably over there so we dont gotta live in a hole in the ground, Minahs go with them and survey the land for some ores..."
Victor then strolls around for a bit to get a view of his new charred home...
"Farmers, clear the land up there a bit, we're gonna be needin some food... builder guys, when the stone starts coming from the quarry, build us some shelters."
Victor then draws his sword. "Leutenant, and the smithers, your coming with me! We need to scout the surroundings a bit more, and possibly slay a few wildlife!"

Quarrymen dig a quarry, off to the side 10ux10u, 25u west, while the miner foreman watches over the operation.
Farmers set up as big a farm as they can... 25u north
Miner's dig a survey mine 5 +-2u around the quarry
Go out with Leutenant, who is yet to be named, and the 3 smiths, scout the area
