I guess this should look something like this.
Name: Chirlon Arona
Description/Race/Backstory/Reason for joining the expedition:Human male. He has large eyes the color of the afternoon sky. His thick, wavy, ivory hair is medium-length and is worn in an elegant style. He is very short and has an average build. His skin is light-colored. He has a strong chin. His wardrobe is held in red colors. A child of a noble merchant who showed promise in magical skill, he was admitted to the one institute for magic in Riverview, where he learned conjuration magic - and other deep truths (or so he says in his orations). After leaving the institute, he started to make speeches on how certain people in power abuse their position to keep others from getting too powerful, crippling Riverview's economy and escalating its problems.
"I have been chosen for what?" - "To lead one of the expeditions and city foundation for the expansion of fair Ri..." the messenger dutifully starts to repeat his speech before Chirlon cuts him of with a quick wave. "That was rhetorical", he says. "I should have seen it coming. A good way to get rid of me, isn't it?" - "I would think there are easier ways..." the messenger responded with an uncertain look on his face. "Ah, but all of those would only arouse suspicion. Now out there in the wilds, so much can happen... have you ever had a preacher who got popular, and then was transferred to a new village? Same principle. The new place is smaller, so fewer people hear the ideas of the preacher. Maybe it is also a rather unpleasant place, and the preacher might not wake up to find that he or she has been killed in their sleep." Chirlon could see that the messenger is rather uncomfortable with his speech.
"Have you attended any of my orations? I'm telling uncomfortable truths. Only one real magic school. Because Riverview can't afford another one? Or because people in power want to better control who gets that power? I attended it, you know. Riverview is poor because certain people in power fear others getting power. I'm saying this out loud, so these people want to get rid of me, and this expedition is the perfect way to do this while they 'honor me.' It's a win-win situation for them. Get a working city, and maybe lose that troublemaker in the process, either by proving me full of hot air, or by me getting my urban *** killed. Anyway, do you know what resources will be at our disposal?" - "Thirty-five working citizens of professions of your choosing, ten citizens and military personel chosen by the chancellor, and four heroic volunteers of good standing." - "With me, that's fifty people. What else?" - "Uh... enough resources to survive the expedition." - "That's it? You know, there are easier ways to commit suicide." - "So I should give the chancellor your rejection?" - "What? No, of course not! I will personally give the chancellor my thanks and accept. Apart from the fact that it would be used against me if I rejected this... honor - this is the perfect opportunity to prove that I am right."
Intelligence +2, Spirituality +1, Power +1, Magical Finesse +2
Disadvantage: Not much of a worker. (-1 Strength, -1 Agility, -1 Dexterity)
Skills:Oration +2 (Make speeches to improve morale, sway opinions and minds),
Conjuration +1 (summoning non-natural creatures (elementals, shadow, light, and the like) and force constructs of middling duration)
Trading +1 (Ability to determine the relatibe value of trade objects and making them seem more/less valuable to others depending on the situation)
Starting items:Fancy clothes (+1 to Oration), conjurer wand (+1 to conjuration), merchant scales (+1 to Trading), replacement wardrobe, silver jewelry
Desired starting spells:Phantom Worker (a short-lived force construct that doesn't do quite the work of an unskilled worker, but was good enough to help hammer together the podiums in the early oration career.)
Flareling (a minor spirit of fire that can set things ablaze or provide light. Might be useful in fighting as well.)
Uneducated citizens:
18 farmers (farming +1)
7 woodcutters (lumberjack +1)
10 carpenters (carpentry +1)
5 swordsmen (swordfighting +1)
2 archers (archery +1)
Educated citizens:
Architect (overseer +1, carpentry +1, architecture +1 <making buildings sturdier than normal; maybe reduce build times?>)
Herbalist (herbalism +1 <finding, cultivating and utilizing special herbs>, medicine +1 <treating wounds and illness>, research +1)
Militia captain (swordfighting +1, archery +1, tactics +1)
I'm assuming here that the 18 farmers, producing 54 job points, are enough to feed the population of 45 with a surplus of 9 (for heroes, governor, and stockpiling)? I guess the governor should be built as a hero, also? Do we have any starting resources beyond the citizens?
