It's so true.

On that same site (run by my ISP, and also has DF available to download), I found an editorial about the Ubisoft DRM. Very amusing.

That was quite the load of bullshit. I think I need to change out my ethernet cable, it smells so bad now.

It was supposed to be poking fun at the idea of the always-on DRM.

He could use a lesson in tone. Only the laughable reasoning he gave for always-on made it seem like satire.

It was blatantly satire.

E: Although the hacker point is probably true.

Actually, satire is meant to be delivered entirely straight. Doing so with a humorous tone would be more in the 'mocking' department.

Not even close. He was mocking them because these DRM are broken on 0day releases.

I still remember what was it, Arkham Asylum's?, anti-piracy measure. A text file containing the poem Jabberwocky. It took the crackers all of 2 days to figure it out.

Actually that is pretty impressive for a anti-piracy measure.

I mean two whole days... PLUS they likely had their hands on it before it was even released.

Arkham I actually recall taking a few days at least, the initial cracks missed some major protections that didn't get too noticeable till later in the game.

So I went ahead and grabbed it. Not a bad game really. I see what they meant about fighting the camera but the controls worked just fine, I didn't have any of the control or precision issues people have mentioned. Currently stuck on a level where lava comes from one side and water from the other and it's annoying but I'm enjoying it. 'Real world physics puzzler' is a genre that needs more exploration.

From Dust looked interesting - It reminded me of the terraforming in Populous set to an obsessive degree.  The thing that kept me from buying it was the lack of substantial conflict - As much variety as fighting nature gets, having something beyond that would have caught my interest.  More buildings, NPC tribes, monsters, etc.  There's only so much you can do with nature powers and a handful of tribesman.

Arkham I actually recall taking a few days at least, the initial cracks missed some major protections that didn't get too noticeable till later in the game.

Which is the way it should be done more often, rather than the burdensome and expensive systems that they throw along with every game.  I'd hoped the Arkham DRM would be a beacon of light to focus on delaying hackers rather than making a system so convoluted that the consumer suffers instead of the pirate.  Constantly introducing content patches that put more subtle but unobtrusive DRM (Like simple checks) would mean the pirates would have to keep fixing up their hacked version or risk it becoming obsolete - Consumers would be able to get content immediately and cheerfully, and if the hacking community moved on to bigger and better projects, those that use the illegal software would never be able to try out that amazingly cool new hat or whatever.
