http://ps3.gamespy.com/playstation-3/dust/1114048p1.htmlComing in Spring 2011. Make sure you watch the video.
From Dust is supposedly the next big God game. Only you don't play God. You play the Shaman of a tribe trying to survive.
The real "God" of From Dust is apparently the earth. The team developing it has developed their own engine that does some ridiculously cool fluid simulations and terrain deformation. Repeat: ridiculously cool fluid simulation.
They game also models plant growth, top soil, erosion and of course, magma.
That's all there really is at the moment.
It looks cool; there's no denying that. I get a strong Black and White vibe just looking at it. And they say there's much more to reveal about what the engine is capable of, and what's involved in game play.
Not exactly what I was hoping for when I heard this was announced. From a technical standpoint, I'm interested. More interested if there's real game play backing up all those fluid dynamics. However, and this is probably just me being jaded, there already seems to be something slightly hollow or lifeless in what they've shown, it's hard to put my finger on it. I hope this turns out to be a really thoughtful game (the concept is interesting; downplaying the significance of man compared to the power of nature) and not just a really flashy tech demo with incidental game play.
