I can tell you right now that what they've got to show won't work for a real game system.  What would be the point if you could blow your enemy up in an instant with a volcano or tsunami?
You have clearly never played Populous.

Yeah, I've played it, and you can't do that.  It takes nearly all of your power to create one, and it only destroys a small area.  This system appears to show someone zoomed out 5 miles into the sky, destroying an entire continent with the click of the mouse.

Im saying the video was a tech demo, and you couldnt actually destroy everything ingame with the click of a mouse. Im fairly certain you would just be attempting to survive by redirecting magma flows and creating some shelter from tsunamis.

For god's sake (no pun intended), it was just a demostration of the engine. There's NO GAMEPLAY at all yet, and saying that "it doesn't work because it works" is a bit... childish? I don't know which word suits this situation well, but it's not "competent" :).

They havn't even really told us how we even really play Dust.

Ok we play a shamman... who... does somethings. To do something for some reason.

I guess if it was like a sandbox at first where all we are doing is trying to build up a tribe until the forces of nature backlash against you and your job is then to somehow allow your tribe to survive against all the forces of nature.

Vegetation spread was a bit hashed in, much like how infomercials try to feature a rubber grip on a product as a feature. Everything else looks nice for a tech demo, but half of this stuff will either be ruined or straight up removed.

How do you people find the will to get up in the morning when you take the childlike wonder in the world and stomp on it over and over again?  I mean, I know we all got really excited about everything Spore would be, and they took most of it out, but that doesn't mean you have to do the opposite every time something cool shows up.

Spore took my childlike innocence when it comes to game anticipation. I'm world-weary to the industry now.

I will admit I was impressed in a childlike way as I watched the video, but immediately after my betrayed mind remembered that these never work out.

Then again my head has yet to do that with the new Bioshock game, which looks goddam AWESOME.

Hey, I understand that is amazing but I've always been practical. Until I SEE that technology being used for greater gameplay I ain't budging.

Yes I've been like that since I was a child.

I wasn't impressed by the Bioshock trailer.

As I said before, I am retaining my excitement for this.  I let my excitement for Spore slowly wear away over time, and that's why I don't have a blood-grudge against te gaem companies what dumb everthin down.

Even if the gameplay sucks, that engine is incredible.
