Still gonna be a buy for me.  I'm never not connected to the internet anyway, it still looks like a fun game, and ideological protest-piracy makes me raeg.

Looks pretty awesome, those are by far the best fluid simulations I've ever seen. The final scenes of the player creating his own island just turned this into a must buy for me.

Its Ubisoft's online authorization and activation system.  They used it for almost all of their new games, starting with The Settlers 7.  Its actually decent, and allows for on-the-spot support and patching.  Most people do have a long-time internet connection, as well.  So it isn't a big problem.

I don't know if this will be the same but I was severely annoyed with Settlers 7 when my internet went out due to a storm and the game promptly saved and exited and refused to let me continue playing.

Yea.  It is a very much heavy-handed approach.  But then, is it any different if you're playing online with say, SC2 and your internet goes out and it kicks you out?

Yes, because you're playing online and you obviously need an internet connection to play with other people. Why the hell should you get kicked out of a single-player game for losing your connection?
Not to mention if the Ubisoft servers have trouble, you'll be shit out of luck until they get the issue fixed.

Not defending Blizzard, by the way, their handling of SC2 and Battle.net has made them no better than Ubisoft.

Wohoo, another DRM'd game! I can't wait to see Ubisoft collapse on it's own greed and idiocy.

Now accepting bets on how long it takes some good people to release a working crack. IMO under one week.

I bet less than three days  :P

I was going to buy it until I read it'll have the draconian DRM. I do have a 24/7 connection, but I'm NOT submitting myself to ubi's DRM policy.

I really want that one as a "when". I want "grubs", and "virgin woman" to turn into a dragon. and monkey children to suddenly sprout wings. And I want the Dwarven Mutant Academy to only gain their powers upon reaching puberty. I also have a whole host of odd creatures that only make sense if I divide them into children and adults.

Also, tadpoles.

Wait...Wait..I need constant internet connection to play SINGLE F*CKING PLAYER MODE?
*insert rant about how online gamplay is being forced down the consumers throat*
It seems like a good game but this online gameplay fad is getting way out of hand...
