evil AND savage creatures
« on: February 23, 2008, 09:49:00 am »

Apparently, trying to have a creature that is both EVIL and SAVAGE - that is, a creature that should only spawn in terrifyng areas - causes all kinds of weird problems. I tried doing this to have demons in terrifying areas, but what i got was sometimes UNDEAD demons(which is weird, demons are not natural creatures), and sometimes crashes. Removing SAVAGE and using only EVIL seems to work fine. I'm playing an heavily modded if it matters, I removed lots and lots of stuff, but before trying this, didn't have any serious problem

EVIL, SAVAGE, and GOOD are currently mutually exclusive.

I understand EVIL and GOOD, but SAVAGE...doesn't really make sense, since an area can be both SAVAGE and GOOD or EVIL...oh well, I'm sure this might change in the future.

I always saw it more thus:
GOOD is interpreted by the beholder but generally means those that aren't going to rape and pillage you maliciously, and would try to save you if that happened or comfort you afterword.
EVIL is usually interpreted as the opposite: that which would gladly bring great harm either arbitrarily or to further some plot that does not favor others.
SAVAGE, in contrast, is most likely referring to the amoral world of nature.  For example, the lion will kill for personal gain (it's survival, food, mates) but does not do so maliciously, it simply does so as part of a way to continue it's established niche in the world.

Thus really whether an area is GOOD, EVIL, or SAVAGE depends on the intent of the organisms living in that area.
