The "demon sultan" is Azathoth.  Yog-Sothoth is the gate.  A shoggoth is a metamorphic blob-monster.

What are they teaching in schools these days?

Not Lovecraft, that's for certain. Despite his influence on literature, I've never seen his works even considered for school use. Hell, I have yet to have an english teacher who knows that H.P. Lovecraft exists.

Hah! Like lovecraft could get past school board censors! Mark Twain (in general), or To Kill a Mockingbird is considered too violent and racist!
 
But anyway, why is school use the deciding factor in whether or not to have something in the contest?
 
The only thing that might get something disqualified is power level (after all, Chuck Norris and the Sandworm got denied for that), so Ctuluhu and friends might not be allowed on that account.

Actually they can't. I've ignored the Forum Games section for about two years, and when I finally decided to take a peek in there, I noticed there was a whole other forum hiding under my nose. With it's own members and everything.
