Don't Look Back
« on: August 17, 2010, 10:15:29 pm »

Don't Look Back is a simple, very short platformer you can play here:  http://distractionware.com/games/flash/dontlookback/

It's Flash, not at all difficult, and takes almost no time to get through, but I admire it all the same.  It's atmospheric and moving, if you're into that sort of thing.  I'm a little surprised it hasn't been linked here before, unless I'm totally stupid at searching.

I played that game, it's kinda old though.

Well if you remove the [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] tag from dwarves I think they have like 2-4 children each time they give birth. And if you get enough mothers up on the pillars you can probably get a good waterfall going.

I liked the simple graphics with their simple palette. It had some decent, not stupidly easy, platforming. I especially liked the first boss. The mechanics used on the home stretch were interesting. It also had fitting music. One very cohesive experience.

Don't look back indeed. Turning around is very, very tempting.

The ending makes you think what happened. But the game and the myth it's based upon are a true art.

I'm completely stuck in a room where I fall from a hole in the ceiling ontop of a pair of bats(?) and a snake(?).

Go left when you fall, run under the first devil/bat/harpy, jump over the snake, and run under the second devil/bat/harpy, and exit. I'm not sure, but I think that's how I did it.

So.. Can we discuss the ending?

Something makes me think he's "looking back" over the events he did, that caused him to get to the grave, causing him to be trapped in an eternal loop.

While it's nice to see an artsy game that doesn't think atari graphics and a semi-haunting soundtrack are an excuse to not have gameplay, I was disappointed.  I'll give it this:  Whoever made the obstacles is a genius, everything in the game is precisely calibrated to piss you off.  It's like the guy's in my head and keeping everything an inch past the limits of my ability or something

The bosses were annoying though.
