((I think that the brokenness of leadership is mostly derived from having a source of xp in the cohort. You get a free character that is willing to throw all their xp into item creation and you can probably replace them with a fresh supply without too much grief...))

Yyyeah, if I was a DM I'd have the character leave once that started becoming the main reason to keep them around.  And then have him spread the word that the PC was exploiting people for their magic rather than giving them a fair share of skills.  It might get difficult to get spellcaster npcs after that.  =B

Quote from: Out of Rorakar
Leadership, when not abused, can be an awesome tool. I've been working on a build that is essentially a horrific demon-beast that gets over a million attacks per round due to some off-hand attack cheese and having two thousand limbs. This was enabled by his first cohort, the loyal Red Wizard known as Garmillo the Vile, who used his extensive resources to help bring along a few dozen (first level) followers to help him use his Circle Magic to summon the monstrosity that is my character. My character's other cohort is a psion that transfers Garmillo's mind into the horrible thing's body, and then leads the army into battle alongside it. He has his own (first level) followers, and some of those have followers. In total, there are about 200 characters of varying level that make up this build, all staying within Wealth Per Level and the rules. I decided that it was (just a smidge) too powerful to use as a character concept, so instead it is the future Big Bad of my real life campaign. Creating the character level-by-level was a great way to build a backstory though. This enemy is no 'monster of the week', it is an incredibly evil being whose powers are so formidable as to require an entire set of MacGuffins to stop.

I just realized that what with time zones and differing customs this may not be obvious, but this weeks game is put on ice because of Christmas.

Have a happy Holladay.

PS: I can make next weeks game, but if anyone can not because of new years it may be a good time to say so.

Sure, the 2nd's fine for me too.  We should be able to wrap up Harren, the House (can't remember the name) diplomat and maybe Hurin in the next session, though Hurin'll require us to leave the city on horseback to get there before any messengers do.  If we can convince the judge to convict them with only two of them bound and confessing then we may be able to get away with just killing the guy to prevent future retribution.

"So with regard to the King's offer of service, my inclination here is to say no.  The stipend would be nice of course, as would regular work, but the damage to our reputation would be too great.  Working for Haruuc would deny us the ability to work for many other potential employers, and it is necessary for our long-term survival and success to remain independent.

"That said, we may wish to offer the King one last service on contract to maintain relations.  Two possibilities come to mind; within the next few days there is a major meeting of the clans here in Rhuakan Draal.  This is probably the reason he wants us to investigate this ambassador.  We could of course investigate the ambassador regardless and give him the money on a more finder's fee basis, which may please or anger him depending.

"Or we can offer to take care of the branch of the Silver Flame that is threatening his business in Sharn.  I personally favour this option, as we are already being paid for it by House Sivis, and it's always nice to get paid twice for the same job.  Furthermore, I want to find this Lord Kagar fellow who's behind the interference and get some answers from him.  Somebody betrayed us back in Sharn, and I suspect I know who.  But before any retribution is apportioned, we need confirmation.  Nobody betrays my men and gets away with it."

"I agree that we *ribbit* shouldn't get tied down here. I have three more continents to see! As for the traitor, I hope it's not that annoying paladin."

(Rorakar hefts the four bottles of paladin ashes)

"That would mean they have some powerful magic on their side."

"I'll just be glad to get away from all these goblins.  Goblins this, goblins that, save the goblins, rescue the goblin, work for the goblin, sick of goblins"

"I am in perpetual awe of your commitment to getting drunk at any given time, Ulf, especially given that we only narrowly avoided a confrontation with dragon-employed mercenaries.  My chief regret now is that we're probably never going to get to work for dragons - Glacius notwithstanding - who although miserly probably still pay better than everyone else.

"Also, once we get Sergeant Jav in our power, we'll need to at the very least ensure the diplomat who was getting in the way of our patron Judge enjoys a long journey at sea.  No doubt he'd rather the man disappear permanently, but it depends how you all feel about that sort of thing."

"Ah yes, I didn't get around to explaining.  To ensure that the judge makes time in his busy schedule to listen to the confessions of these men - that is, before our client is executed - he wants us to make a political enemy disappear long enough to push something through the courts.  Now he didn't outright say we have to kill the guy, though that will almost certainly save us trouble in the long run.  If we don't feel comfortable silencing this lawyer that way, we just have to stick him on a wagon or ship bound a long way from here and bribe the captain or wagoner to feed him occasionally."

"I'd rather not kill him if we don't have to. *croak* Don't want him to follow us either. Hmm..."

Hey Iituem, want to see some crazy Leadership shenanigans? Here's a picture I made over at another forum while asking for help on creating powerful mooks. This is the Cult of Gorehonego, the Undying Worm. Yes, this character formed a cult around himself. His cohorts have cohorts, and some of his cohort's cohort's followers have cohorts. Mad abuse of Close Cohort (cohorts can be within one level of you) leads to some insane antics.

Mass Fly is fun for transforming land mooks into BEEEEEEEEZ mooks.

Holy shit that was powerful.  And this is exactly why I am busy rewriting the Leadership feat.
