Considering the only information on the game came out three days ago, it's probably going to look like something from '97. I want to believe there's a decent game in this, even if Gearbox basically does a Borderlands mod, but I'm holding no great hopes for it.

You know of course they've restarted the game entirely from scratch with new engines and art, at least 5 different times. Whatever it looks like, it probably won't be 1997 graphics :P

I thought the company that made the game dissolved.

Take 2 said they were still planning to release it. Anyway, this rumor is that a new dev house picked it up.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gearbox really pulled this one off, though I doubt it will have quite the same feel as the old games. Reboots never do, and DNF has been vaporware so long it will undoubtedly be a reboot. But still, Gearbox has pulled off bigger stunts than this before (they reworked the entire graphical style of Borderlands right before release, early trailers look absolutely nothing like the final game), I totally wouldn't be surprised if they do this.

I got three words for you:

Team Fortress 2.

You never know, DNF might be the next big thing.  Hell, you know the age group that played DN3D as kids?  They'll be all over DNF for sure.

Way back when, my father and his friend would take me and my brothers, along with his kids, and we'd play duke nukem on his office network after hours. It was awesome, I remember driving them all mad with laser traps.

Oh god no.Please don't mention that a-fucking-bomination of a game if you could even call it that.It sacrificed gameplay for graphics. But it is alright if you completely lower your videogaming standards.

id Tech 4 is Doom 3.

id Tech 5 is Doom 4, which is in development now.

Or they could use the latest Unreal Engine...  I don't get what the big deal with id is.  They haven't really done anything special in years, have they?

ID made the first modern first person shooter.

They did Wolfenstain 3d, Doom, and Unreal. And their unreal game engine has powered scores and scores of games. ID has clout for a reason. They recently have been concentrating on their game engine then creating games.
