ID has nothing to do with unreal. What the HELL are you talking about?

ID made the first modern first person shooter.

They did Wolfenstain 3d, Doom, and Unreal. And their unreal game engine has powered scores and scores of games. ID has clout for a reason. They recently have been concentrating on their game engine then creating games.

id had nothing to do with Unreal.  They made Wolf 3d, Doom, and Quake, and havn't really done anything special or innovative since Quake 3 invented the multiplayer focused  FPS as far as I know. I think EA has done more innovating in the genre since then.

*shrug* Id has made at least 50% of its money off of licensing its engines. Unfortunately for them, no one is buying much these days. (At least, I don't see a lot of AAA games using Id tech.) I think they've realized they're no longer top dog in engine department and are shifting to producing some actual IPs with merit. Both the last Wolfenstein and DOOM fell short, despite how nice they looked.

id didn't make any of the modern Wolfentein games.  "Wolfenstein" was made by Raven and RtCW was made by Gray Matter Interactive and Nerve Software.  Oh yeah, and Wolfenstein Enemy Territory was made by Splash Damage.

Isn't Raven owned by Id though? I knew ET was not an Id production.

id doesn't have any subsidiaries.  It's a subsidiary of ZeniMax (which itself is a shell company for Bethesda Softworks or something like that).

Raven is owned by Actiblizzard.

pretty sure after rage and ID tech 5 comes out everyone will cream and jump on the sexy ID tech bandwagon, ditching unreal 3 (somewhat) and therfore forcing unreal to *gasp* be innovative.
Whatever that means.

Didn't happen with last iD Tech and this one will probably be worse due to being managed by Zenimax..

Still Carmack's skills as a programmer are shining through, the Rage engine for iPhone is pretty impressive looking..

Everything is geared for Unreal now. Whatever ID does with it's engines doesn't matter anymore since no one is going to bother using something that takes effort to work with in comparison. Besides I remember hearing ID Tech 5 was going to be internal only.

What I heard was that they were only licensing it to other ZeniMax subsidiaries, but I think I read that here, so take that for what it's worth.
